About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Hill Country Cycling

Thursday night Camp Verde rides
Each week a group ride is held. The current meeting spot is the picnic park at Camp Verde, in front of the General Store. The meeting time is 6:00 pm, currently.

There are a range of rides available for anyone willing to stretch their legs and spin their wheels on a Thursday evening in the Hill Country scenery.

For beginners there is a pretty easy out and back along FM 480. If you roll the whole route it’s a quick and easy 13 miles. The roll from Camp Verde to Center Point is mostly downhill. It is somewhat tougher to roll back, but it’s not a total slog. There is a lot of… More

A Few Drops of Rain – July 18th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 18, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJuly 18, 2011

Earlier in the day we got .17″ of rain according to my rain gauge. This helped to lower the temperature some for this evening’s ride. As I was heading back home the clouds started to thicken to the northeast and the temperature dropped several degrees. This helped make the ride more enjoyable but I was concerned that I might get wet before I got back home. It was 89.6 degrees at the finish and the wind was from the southeast at 3 to 4 mph. The drought conditions are still hanging on and Lake Houston is getting lower by the day.

Riding was pleasant and I was looking forward to the ride but I did shorten the route by a mile or so since the clouds were getting thicker and the sun was going behind them. I rode an even 24 miles at a 15.0 average speed. I did get up 20.7 mph and the average cadence was 79.6 RPM. July miles are 386.92 and YTD miles are 3226.01. I saw several other bikers out riding.
