About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cleat Placement: Fore/Aft Position
by Eric Bowen        from BikFit Blog
Myth vs. Reality
Many widely practiced bike fitting protocols and procedures are based on little more than traditions handed down from fitter to fitter through the years. In many cases there is good reason to follow these rules – time and again they have proven to be the best approach. Yet, there are other fitting protocols founded on “wisdom” that… More

By Shlachter, Nishimura & Baker        www.star-telegram.com
A small Fort Worth company scored something of a guerrilla marketing coup at the 2011 Tour de France.

And when we say “small,” we’re talking about two guys and a dog.

Arundel Bicycle Co. is an official sponsor of the U.S.-based Garmin Cervelo team, supplying bicycle… More

BMX racers descend on Midland

Bicycles whined as spokes and chains turned furiously. Cheers filled the air. The announcer breathlessly tried to keep pace with the youths vying for first place. Dirt flew off tires as racers turned tight, high corners. In the end, a… More

GV couple rides across America on tandem bicycle
By Nick Prevenas, www.gvnews.com
Tom and Joan Fava tend to view the world a bit differently than most 65-year-olds.

…For example, the Favas rolled into a Dairy Queen in La Grange, Texas. A family of four approached them, curious about the two-seated bike. The dad asked them where they began their ride, expecting to hear a nearby Texas town. …More

Riding during the middle day in July can give… – July 10th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 10, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJuly 10, 2011

Riding during the middle day in July can give an appreciation to the phrase “Hot Wheels”. My home weather station showed 99 degrees when I finished today’s ride at 1:21PM. Fortunately the humidity was at 41% which meant the steam effect was not so pronounced. Partly cloudy skies presented some nice fluffy figures in the sky and the light 8 mph southeast wind was a nice cooler when I was in the shade. I did not see any other riders which is not surprising given the heat.

I rode the route in a different direction in some of the sections plus I went on a longer ride than I usually do on Sunday. This was an attempt to recover the miles I missed by not riding last Wednesday. Today I rode 28.52 miles at an average speed of 15.3 mph. Max speed was 20.8 mph and average cadence was 78.8 RPM. Mileage for the week was 133.55, July miles are now 210.75 and year to date is 3049.83.
