About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Ross Ave Better-Boulevard recon
by bikedenton

Last weekend, I went down to Dallas to see the BikeFriendlyOakCliff/BetterBlock Ross Ave Better Boulevard. They took a neglected block and made it inviting by adding shade, traffic calming, water, crosswalks, bike lanes, entertainment, and food. The NYTimes even mentions the Ross Ramblas event in their article about tactical urbanism. … More

Livestrong riders in town today
By COLTER NUANEZ, Chronicle Sports Writer
For the past six years, Bozeman’s Vickie Wilkson has spent this time of year planning how to feed almost two-dozen very hungry people.

On Sunday, Wilkson and her husband Jon will again host a barbeque that is becoming an annual event. Although feeding the 22 cyclists riding in the Livestrong Texas 4000 is becoming a regularity, the cause the visitors are riding for remains special. …More

Users fitting bike share into their lifestyles
By Aaron Jentzen    www.mysanantonio.com

No wonder some call him “The Jared of B-cycle.”

In only three months, Phillip Schrank has logged more than 750 miles using San Antonio’s bike-share program, shedding about 45 pounds. He’s B-cycle’s No. 1 user and — like the Subway spokesman he’s been compared to — a natural booster. …More

A Plain Jane Ride with Heat – July 3rd Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 3, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJuly 3, 2011

Yesterday evening we finally got some rain, 0.42″ to be exact. This is the first measurable rain at my house in many months. While this is not enough to end the drought it should help our grass and trees. The rain did not stay around long and the heat, blue skies and low humidity are back. It was 95 degrees when I finished my ride and the humidity was 41%. Wind was not much at 5 mph from the south. I did not see any bikers. Tomorrow there will be a parade and fireworks in Kingwood. Maybe the heat will be kind on the spectators.

Today I rode 25.75 miles at an average speed of 14.7 mph, a max speed of 23.5 mph, and average cadence of 76.4 RPM. July miles are now at 77.19. This week I rode 161.74 miles and year to date is at 2916.28 miles. Tomorrow I want to ride about 30 miles and I will need to start around 6:30AM to avoid the heat and get back for the parade.
