About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bicycling for transportation is at an all time high in the U.S: the number of bike commuters rose by 64% from 1990 to 2009. Now that gas prices are rivaling record-high 2008 levels, we think bike commuting will…

The Chamber of Commerce weather has left town – May 18th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 18, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMay 18, 2011

The Chamber of Commerce weather has left town. The clear skies have been replaced by heavy overcast skies and the temperature struggled to hit 80 degrees today. Wind at the finish was 21 mph from the southeast with gusts to 25 mph. I was trying to make a quick ride in order to get back home to watch the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of California. On the way out to the turn around point at FM2100 and Old Atascocita Road the wind was battling me all the way. At one point riding east over Lake Houston on FM1960 I got hit by a gust of wind that almost brought me to a standstill. I was wondering if the clouds would drop some rain but nothing happened.

Once I turned around back home the wind was a helper and I was able to keep my speed above 18 mph most of the time. Average speed was 15.2 mph for the 28.28 mile ride. My maximum speed was 21.0 mph with average cadence at 80.4 rpm. Max cadence was 108 rpm. My rest day seemed to help the tired legs since I could get the ava

May miles are up to 370.14. Year to date miles are 1872.81. The weather looks favorable for riding tomorrow evening.
