About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets. The Collins Street Bridge
by Adam at Bike Friendly Richardson

The Collins Street Bridge is a popular way for cyclists to cross Central Expressway, partly because it has a relatively low amount of auto traffic compared to Spring Valley, Belt Line, Arapaho, Campbell, and Renner (Richardson Traffic Count Map).  However, it is not perfect.  The biggest problem is that many motorists tend to drive well above the speed limit when crossing the bridge and, as with other roads that cross Central…

by Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 9:58am

Today is the first day of the Police Unity Tour bicycle ride and I have to say that the Texas Wheels of Justice group has represented well.

The day began with an 0500 wakeup (which equates to 0300 Mountain Time back home). I was up until 0130 prepping everything, repacking, and sending email and Facebook updates. Time well spent but it was hard to roll out of my warm bed this morning! We rolled out on the ride at 0700-ish. …

Postby fsr » May 13th, 2011, 6:51 pm
Great news for the North Texas Mountian Bike Patrol and Groundworks Dallas.

The North Texas Mountain Bike Patrol and Groundwork Dallas have been in discussion regarding a partnership for a common cause; supporting and building more trails in and around Dallas, TX. Our mutual cooperation will serve a catalyst for each group to achieve our mutual goal of creating the best urban trail systems in Texas and quite possibly the United States. Please give your time and effort to support this cause.

Eight days and still riding to raise money and awareness to fight cancer
by SHELTON GREEN / KVUE News (Video)
There’s a lot of honking going on at the busy intersection of Barton Springs and South Lamar in South Austin and it has nothing to do with the traffic there.
The parking lot of Jack and Adam’s Bicycles on the northeast corner of that intersection is where members of Texas 4000 are having a marathon fundraiser where…

What is Exchange?
Exchange is an all-volunteer, national service organization for men and women who want to serve their community, develop leadership skills and enjoy new friendships.

Widely known as America’s Service Club, Exchange is made up of more than 800 clubs and nearly 28,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Exchange Club Programs of Service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Programs and Child Abuse Prevention provide a diverse array of projects and programs with a considerable impact on America, enhancing the lives of countless men, women and children across the nation.

Our Gatesville Club
The Gatesville Exchange Club was formed May 20, 1983.  We currently have 60+ members and are growing every year.  Our goal for this year which began on July 1, 2010 is to add 10 new members before June 30, 2011.

We currently conduct several annual fundraisers that support our Programs of Service.  We hold the annual Taste of Gatesville in the winter, the Fire Ant Bicycle Tour in the summer, and the Golf Tournament in the fall.  The fund-raising events generate revenue to fund projects such as our Youth of the Year and our ACE student awards, Child Abuse Prevention, Patriotism and Americanism.

In addition to these events, we participate in the GAKAFTW (Give a Kid a Flag to Wave) Program and hand out flags during our local Christmas and 4th of July parades.  Our Golden Deeds Banquet in the spring recognizes a wide variety of honorees in the community, our ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) students, the Students of the Year, and a special recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds.

We think we are a great group of people doing positive and productive things in our community.  Come join us and be a member of the elite community service organization in Gatesville!

Me, Querencia, and You
by bikedenton

That’s me, at Querencia, after a chilly day of volunteer work.

I never write about myself on this blog. It never felt right, because I thought BikeDenton was a faceless news source. Well, it ain’t true. It’s not faceless, and as deeply as my own life is woven into Denton’s bike culture, I can’t pretend to be…

By DALE ROBERTSON
Kim Budzik was heading to Austin to visit her daughter when she found out she had gained a spot in this summer’s Badwater UltraMarathon, a devilishly debilitating run of 135 miles from the depths of California’s Death Valley to the portals of Mount Whitney. The news made Budzik so excited she nearly…
