About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tour de Gap
Presented by BikeTown
Abilene, TX
Saturday, July 23, 2011
Online Registration Will Open Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:00 AM ET
Come join us for Tour de Gap 2011! It’s a great ride for a great cause. All proceeds from this event benefit the Food Bank of West Central Texas. Ride through the rolling hills around Buffalo Gap, TX (just a few minutes south of Abilene), watch the Tour de France at the pavilion area, enjoy the food and raffles, all while benefiting our local Food Bank.

There are four race distances to choose from: 11, 27, 52, and 77 miles. Each distance will have a raffle held at the end of their ride. The top three finishers in each age-category in the 77-mile ride will be given prizes. Riders age 14 and under ride free with a paying adult! They do still need to register, though.

Day-of registration and packet/timing chip pick-up starts at 6:30 am on Saturday, July 23 at the ride site. Packet and timing chip pick-up will end at 7:50 am.

Check out our website for the routes, maps, and other information. We look forward to seeing you there!

Finally, Bike Parking At The Cottonwood Art Festival
by dickdavid

We really enjoy going to the Cottonwood Art Festival. It’s probably one of the best artisan events in the Metroplex and it happens in one of our own neighborhood parks. Our only complaint about the festival is the insane automobile traffic and limited car parking during the event. There is no reason an event like this…

Congress Avenue art spots by bike
Ben Brant’s sculpture made of Portland cement, construction debris and Fiberglas insulation is part of the Austin Museum of Art’s ‘New Art in Austin: 15 to Watch’ exhibit.
Alberto Martínez AMERICAN-STATESMAN
They don’t call Congress Avenue the “main street of Texas” for no reason.

And now, “I Art Congress,” a new themed series on the second Thursday of each month, offers everyone a way to explore the cultural offerings of the avenue.
