About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texbiker.net Posted on May 10, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMay 10, 2011

The death of Wouter Weylandt is not Texas related but I was watching the stage and saw him when he went down. He did not look good. It is so tragic when this happens. My prayers are with his family and fellow riders.

Changing a saddle is more involved than you might think – May 9th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 9, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMay 9, 2011

Changing a saddle is more involved than you might think. I shipped my Koobi saddle off for repair and put one of my old saddles on. When I did that my pedaling seemed to go in squares but that may be from the last two days of riding. I had to stop to adjust the saddle to keep from sliding forward and putting too much pressure on my hands. The rider has three pressure points (seat, hands and feet) and when you change one it affects the others. Hopefully I get my Koobi saddle back quickly. I did not want to make any big changes with the fit since it should only be a short time. Tomorrow’s rest day should help the legs.

The great riding weather continued today: 82 degrees, partly cloudy skies, 15 mph south wind and acceptable humidity. While this is perfect for riding the drought stills has a firm grip on Texas.

May miles are 213.48 and year to date miles are 1716.15.

Finally a ride without tire problems – May 8th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 8, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMay 8, 2011

Finally a ride without tire problems. No tube failures or mystery wire. I wanted to get my ride in before we go out for Mother’s Day lunch. The weather continues to be riding friendly with 91 degrees at home when I finished. Partly cloudy skies and a 12.7 mph southeast wind were helpful as well. Still no rain in sight this week. Today was an easy day to recover from the 58.4 mile ride yesterday.

When I was reloading my spare tube into my seat bag I found that my Koobi PRS Century saddle cover was damaged in my dog crash. Koobi repairs saddles so I am sending it in for repair.

No other riders were out so I was the lone one. I did see a couple of flower shop delivery vans rescuing people from forgetting mother, maybe. We are going to the Golden Coral for Mother’s Day so I hope to be restrained in my eating.

May mileage is now at 184.98, miles this week are 160.01 and year to date miles are 1687.65.
