About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

The blue skies and low humidity have left – April 20th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 20, 2011 by Rick AnkrumApril 20, 2011

The blue skies and low humidity have left the area. In their place are overcast skies and 69% humidity. The wind is 14 to 16 mph from the southeast. With that wind you would think the clouds would be blown away but the wind is pushing the humidity from the Gulf of Mexico. This does not help the drought conditions though. We still need rain.

This evening’s ride was slightly longer  at 24.39 miles as I got a 4 minute earlier start and the sunset was a couple of minutes later. At the beginning I noticed some darker clouds to the west but they never made it to our area. When I was riding over Lake Houston on FM1960 I greeted by some great seafood aromas from the Cedar Landing Restaurant. They were so strong I think I could have recovered from a bonk just by inhaling.

One other rider was on my route going in the opposite direction along Kingwood Drive. He was a brave soul riding in the heavy traffic. I ride on the bike path along this street.

Average speed was a little slower at 14.8 mph but I had a maximum speed of 27.2 mph. Since I have tightened up my shoe straps I have noticed my cadence has went up a few rpm’s. My left foot was slipping some inside my shoe and irritating my toes. Tomorrow I plan on riding.

April mileage update:

  • April miles  419.33
  • YTD miles 1246.00
