About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cow Patty Classic 4th Annual Benefit Bike Ride

Due to the support we provide, this is an excellent ride for beginners and experts alike and is a perfect training ride for the BP MS-150. Enjoy outstanding views of the Texas Hill country. This is a benefit ride, where all proceeds go to support the youth of the Vista Ridge FFA through scholarship, sponsor support, student development and community involvement.

The Cow Patty Classic is a fully supported ride for cyclists at any stage of training with multiple rest stops (with snacks & sports drinks), clear directional signage, mobile bicycle mechanics and dedicated volunteers to assist you on ride day. We’ve also added an end of ride BBQ included for all registered cyclists. And of course, don’t forget the complimentary ride t-shirt and goodie bag!

The t-shirt will of course include our dear friend, Cow Patty, but this year she will be in a supporting role. Inspired by the huge success of the design for our Fall sister ride, the Half Calf, we’re happy to announce a redesign of the Cow Patty Classic art that we’re sure everyone will enjoy! T-shirts and goodie bags can only be guaranteed for those who register online by April 1st, 2011. After that date, they will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

We’re also very excited that our sponsor partner, AJ’s Cyclery, has very generously donated a road bike for raffle this year.* Raffle tickets will be sold for $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. Be sure to get in on a chance to win this fabulous bike! To view a picture of the bike for raffle, please visit our official ride website at www.vrffaalumni.com/bike_ride.

Registration Closing Date Friday, April 08, 2011 @ 11:59 PM

Brief Description
The 2011 Wildflower Bike Ride is sponsored by the Anchor Club of Cuero, an active service organization at Cuero High School. The courses wind through some picturesque sites, including an old country church. SAG stops will offer bikers a chance to stop and view many years of local history — an added historic and pastoral dimension for those who like to “stop and smell the flowers”. We hope you will enjoy these special interests while you bike through our rural countryside.

Additional Information
The Wildflower Bike Ride is the major fundraiser of the Anchor Club, enabling them to continue their many, many school and community service projects. Proceeds from the bike ride help fund such worthy community service projects as a Prom for Special Needs Students, Brain Minder Buddies programs at the schools, School Supplies Drive, Care Kits for Women’s Crisis Centers, camping scholarships to Camp Higher Ground, a camp for adults with brain-related injuries and diseases, and college scholarships for Anchor Club seniors. In addition, Anchor Club members volunteer in the community at various functions: the annual Chamber of Commerce auction, Cuero’s Halloween Carnival, Health Fair, bingo at area nursing homes….to name a few. Your participation in this ride helps us to continue our special projects and is greatly appreciated.

Cyclists who wish to camp may do so at the Cuero City Park on Hwy. 87 South where primitive facilities, picnic facilities, water and toilets are available. There are other full service camping facilities available nearby. Please call for additional assistance, 361-275-5456.

Yoakum and Yorktown are both 16 miles from Cuero. Other nearby communities where accommodations may be found are Victoria (28 mi), Goliad (31 mi), Gonzales (33 mi), and Hallettsville (35 m). Let us know if you need assistance with accommodations in one of the area towns.

Event Background
At 17 Kyle Bryant was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare, life shortening disease that affects muscle control and coordination. In 2007, riding his recumbent tricycle, Kyle created Ride Ataxia with a 60-day, 2,500 mile bicycle ride from San Diego, CA to Memphis, TN

Event History
The goal of this ride was to educate the public, enable research through funding, and empower others through inspiration and motivation. Over 3,500 miles and $960,000 in research funds later, the spirit of Ride Ataxia is stronger than ever and is now the marquis fundraising event for the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance. Today Ride Ataxia offers both challenging and family-friendly rides all across the country.
