About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

WELL.  Some races you win and some races you lose.  Actually the phrase should  be some races you win, and a lot of races you lose.

I was feeling great the day of the race, and got to the race area about an hour before the 10:40am start.  The course was a very clean 2 mile loop that undulated up and down by about 100 ft per loop.  The 45 minute race would be raced as a circuit race, so if you flatted you were done.  Eric and I decided that because of…

After a week of record cold or close to it… – February 12th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on February 12, 2011 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 12, 2011

After a week of record cold or close to it today’s 64 degrees, cloudless skies and light breeze were too much to resist. All I could muster this week was two windtrainer sessions so getting the 43.37 miles in today was a breathe of fresh air even if it was a little chilly. I did see a few other riders out on SR242 so I was not the only rider succumbing to the call to ride. I was dressed warmly enough with two long sleeve jerseys, windbreaker jacket, leg warmers and full finger gloves. I could feel the cool temperature whenever I moved through the shadows but the body heat was able to keep me warm. I was thinking earlier this week of riding the Pedaling to the Prairie ride in Waller but the 30 degrees at 7:30AM stopped that.

Next week’s weather is supposed to be much warmer. I hope so because I would like to ride the Humble Lion’s Club ride on Saturday.

  • February month to date miles 109.6
  • YTD miles 327.59

Both of these are pretty low for this time of the year but this crazy weather has slowed me down.

2-12-2011 Ride Summary and Map

Additional charts, weather and map.
