About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Daily News Roundup February 11th – Texas Bicycling

Texbiker.net Posted on February 11, 2011 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 12, 2011

All PUDDLE FOR THE DUCKS Registered Riders First, we want to thank each and every one of you for your support and encouragement last week while we were struggling with the decision on whether to postpone, cancel or attempt to continue with the 2011 PUDDLE FOR THE DUCKS. As everyone is aware, we ultimately decided to postpone the ride in the hopes of being able to hold it on a later date.  Because of the number of recommended rides in the Houston area, finding a date which does not have a ride committed is nearly impossible. Therefore it was determined that partnering with an existing ride would be the best alternative for this year's PUDDLE FOR THE DUCKS ride.  We have agreed that we will partner with the 2011 Spring Breakaway on Sunday, February 27, 2011. Beginning at 8:00 AM, the ride will start and finish at the Katy Mills Mall location of Sun & Ski Sports, a sponsor for both rides. …

ROTOR Q-rings and Cranks: The Cycling God’s Gift to Men from Texas Racing Life by Ken A product that I use and love is the ROTOR Qring and crank setup.  I also have a Quark Power meter that fits nicely with the setup. A Qring is a special type of chainring that is asymmetrical, meaning it is thicker through one cross section than another.  In effect, my 53 tooth outer chainring is a virtual 55 tooth during one section of the pedal stroke and a 50 during another section of the pedal stroke.  This is designed to work with the design of…

Cycling Does Not Weaken Bones
A recent article from France may explain why some top bicycle racers have low bone densities, indicating an increased risk for breaking their bones (The Physician and Sportsmedicine, October 2010).  Nobody has ever shown that bicycling or any other type of exercise weakens bones.  I discussed this in detail in…
