Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

RACE INFORMATION

Teams of 2, 3 and 4* members are welcome to test themselves in this wonderful Texas State Park!  The “SPORT Course will include approximately 40-50 miles of mountain biking, trekking, paddling, special tests and a ropes/climbing course.  Teams should complete this event in approximately 12 hours.  Teams will be expected to navigate their way through the course using a map and compass!

The “SPRINT” course, where solo, 2, or 3 person teams compete, will include approximately 15 miles of mountain biking, trekking and paddling, while finding CPs that are pre-plotted on your map!

APPROXIMATE RACE DISTANCES:

12-HOUR “SPORT” COURSE

* Mountain Biking 20-25 miles;
* Paddling 6-11 miles;
* Trekking 8-12 miles;
* Climbing/Rope work

“SPRINT” COURSE:

* Mountain biking 8-10 miles
* Paddling 3 miles
* Trekking 3-5 miles

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

* 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm — Friday night, Informal check-in
* 6:30 am – 7:30 am — Saturday morning Packet Pick-up, official check-in
* 7:30 am — Saturday morning, Pre-race meeting
* 8:00 am — Saturday morning RACE START
* 8:00 am — RACE CUT-OFF

This years Lone Star Trail Building School Hosted be the North Texas Mountain Bike Patrol and the Boy Scouts of America is being taught by S&S Trails. Classes will include; basic and advanced trail design and maintenance. This year we are also including a safety course for all students covering the use of power tools. The advanced class is for attendees who have completed a previous basic course. This school is open to anyone who would like to attend; however, space is limited. If you currently have a trail or are in the process of planning or building one, this course will be of great benefit to you.
Location:    Sid Richardson Scout Ranch
Date: February  19 – 20, 2011
Friday: Early Check-in
Saturday: 8:00 AM, Breakfast
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM , Class
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Lunch
1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Class
Sunday: 8:00 AM Breakfast
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Class
12:00 PM , Class Ends, Lunch
Accommodations: Attendees  will be staying at Lakeview Lodge on Sid Richardson (no cost),  the accommodations will either be Two bedroom cabins or ten person dorms.  If  cost),  the accommodations will either be Two bedroom cabins or ten person dorms.  If you would like to stay overnight at the ranch, please contact Rick Buckley for reservations. (see bottom of page) 5 Meals: Provided at a cost of $40.00 or you can bring your own.  Fee must be paid in advance.  Fee for meals can not be returned if a cancellation is made less than 14 days prior to event date.

Brief Description
All Riders – Receive a rider number, and plenty of food and drink at all the rest stops.
The first 500 riders get a T-shirt.
Children – Riders 17 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult during the ride.

packet pickup
Packet pick up is from noon to 2pm at the Sun & Ski store on Westheimer on the 19th and at the Sun & Ski store in the Memorial City Mall on the 26th.

Additional Information
Families of four can register together at a cost of $100 for early registration and $115 for late registration. One registration entry for the entire family.

#2   The total miles for the week, divided by the number of reporting riders will set the next week’s mileage goal.
#3   This is totally on the honor system and for fun!
