About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tribute to Big Mike’s bike rack
from Bike Denton by bikedenton
Big Mike's Bike Rack
I went to Big Mike’s Coffee this week, and to my surprise, the rack was at capacity (13 bikes) and I had to lock to a parking meter.  Thus, it’s time for a tribute post to that rack.

If there’s one bike rack in town that’s never empty (excluding the college campuses), it’s at Big Mike’s Coffee.  Anyone who’s lived here since…

After Two Days of Cool… – December 2nd Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 2, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 2, 2010

After two days of cool weather the forecast for today was calling for a temperature in the low 70’s. It almost made it so I was planning for the evening ride at work. As I was getting ready to leave work I noticed the temperature had dropped a couple of degrees to 68. This was worrisome but I was intent on riding so when I got home I did not check my weather station and dressed as if it would be in the 50’s. This was a good idea since when I finished the ride it was 58 degrees. The leg warmers, two long sleeve jerseys, wind jacket, and full finger gloves were the correct outfit. The next two days are supposed to be in the 70’s but Sunday will drop down as another cold front comes to town. I have lived here over 20 years but riding at night still has a different feel from the day time rides. Everything looks different in the dark.

The Motobecane 700HT MTB is a nice bike to ride the bike trails and streets in my area. There is a difference between the RockShox Mag 21 on my previous MTB and the RockShox Dart 2 on the Motobecane. I am still getting the hang for the Shimano shifters. The SRAM Gripshift on my previous bike were second nature for shifting. I do like the disc brakes over the cantilever on the Raleigh M800.

Today’s ride data:

  • December miles  13.90
  • YTD miles 4947.22

12-2-2010 Ride Information and Map
