About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Brief Description
Saturday morning on January 29th 2011, our annual “Bike through the Forest and the Hills” will once again put you to the Test.

Previous Riders and Ride Marshall’s have commented that this is one of the most challenging MS Recommended Bike Rides you will find for training for the BP MS150 in southeast Texas.

Our ride begins in the small charming town of Coldspring, Texas located just northeast of Houston off Highway 59. The ride route immediately puts riders into demanding hills that you don’t find in other bike rides … hence the title “Bike through the Forest and the Hills”.

The ride then levels out onto clean and open scenic roads into “The Forest”. On your return dash to the finish, you are once again met head-on with those challenging hills.

We offer 4 ride routes for all levels of riders. The 48 mile route has been described as “one challanging ride”.   All information on the ride can be found on our website.

We have full rest stops and SAG support. This will include all the fruit and drinks along with plenty of port-a-potties. So whether you need to take a break, need help with a flat or just need a lift, we will be there for you.

We encourage everyone to bring the whole family, as after the ride it is fun to visit the local restaurants, cafes and quaint shops in downtown Coldspring.

Bayou City Outdoors Holiday Farmer’s Market Ride – Houston, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on November 6, 2010 by Rick AnkrumNovember 6, 2010

Bayou City Outdoors Holiday Farmer’s Market Ride
Bayou City Outdoors Holiday Farmer’s Market Ride
Start: Saturday, December 11, 2010 @ 8:00 AM

Brief Description
Toss on your antlers or Santa Hats and join BCO on a fun ride around town just in time for the Holidays! Bring your backpack to carry what you purchase, and let’s shop the markets on our bikes! We meet for coffee and then take an easy tour of 3 to 5 markets around the city. We use side streets, trails and residential roads for this approximately 12 – 15 mile, 3 hour ride including generous stops.

Additional Information
Not only will you learn the markets and get some exercise, you’ll see beautiful areas you never knew existed in Houston and take home a bounty of beautiful produce, breads, sauces and jams! If you’d like to join us but don’t own a bike, West End Bicycles rents bikes for $25. RSVP 713-524-3567 or http://www.BayouCityOutdoors.com

Wear your Santa hats or antlers (on top of your helmet of course) we’re hitting the markets on a holiday tour…

NEW route and we have added the Highland Village market.  We are meeting at Onion Creek.  If you want to hang out and enjoy a coffee before the ride be there by 8:00, we will leave at 8:30.  If you haven’t used your bike in awhile it is a good idea to check your tires (air them up the night before to be sure they don’t have a leak) and check your brakes.  Stopping is always a good option 🙂

Please park on the street around Onion Creek so we do not take all their parking.  Also, please watch for NO PARKING signs…

We have several Farmer Markets right here in the middle of the city, which bring in local organic produce every Saturday. Bring your backpack to carry what you purchase, and let”s shop the markets on our bikes! We meet for coffee and then take an easy tour of 3 markets around the city.

We use side streets, trails and residential roads for this approximately 15 mile, 3.5 hour ride including generous stops.  This can be a cold ride during the winter in Houston so please make sure you are wearing layers and drink plenty of fluids.  Bike helmets are required, and an extra pack to carry you purchases and a hat is a good idea.  Please ensure your bike has air in the tires and is in good mechanical order before the ride so the rest of the group is not delayed, we will have a bike pump on hand.
