About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Daily News Roundup November 3rd – Texas Bicycling

Texbiker.net Posted on November 3, 2010 by Rick AnkrumNovember 3, 2010

This news article is not about Texas but I could not pass up the contrast between riding in Texas and the Congo. Carrying your bike in a dugout canoe and then riding 100K is not the typical ride here.

Pastors bike through Congo to bring hope
from www.umc.org
By Kathy L. Gilbert
Hop on a bike, ride a hundred kilometers or so into “le triangle de la mort” (the triangle of death) and bring hope to people who feel forgotten.

Typical day for the Rev. Bob Walters and the Rev. Joseph Mulongo.
Biking in the Congo
At least it was typical for them for six weeks in February and March when they rode 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) deep into the Democratic Republic of the Congo to parts of the district that haven’t been visited since…

Tight Hamstrings & Cycling | The Wheel Brothers – Cycling in Texas
by admin
Many cyclists’ suffer from tight hamstrings, even though they stretch frequently. What’s the deal? Tight hamstrings are commonly a result of “gluteal amnesia.” In essence, the glutes forget how to contract, causing the hamstrings and calves to overwork. This is especially relevant for individuals who bike frequently then sit for long periods.

Think of the body as a puppet controlled by strings. If one or more of the strings get out of balance the whole puppet suffers. The body is…

BikeTexas Awards Bike Friendliest Texas Legislators
by PRLog.Org (press release)
Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) is a longtime supporter of cycling in Texas. An avid cyclist, Senator Ellis has authored many cycling-related bills, including the Safe Passing Bill in the 2009 legislative session.  The Safe Passing Bill, Senate Bill 488, required motorists to give more than three feet of clearance when passing …

Sponsors including Advanced Sports Inc.’s Pat Cunnane, Tom Roth and Joe Breeze and NuVinci’s Al Nordin, Rob Sherlock and Geoff Petrangelo joined BRAIN editors as we toured…

Sellwood Bridge the latest project for bicycling advocate
by The Bee
…Unlike Portland, Dallas had been a “notoriously bike-hostile city,” Birk writes, in her recently published book “Joyride: Pedaling Toward A Healthier Planet”. Her recommendation to Dallas officials was to start small, with bike lanes and bike boulevards. …

Pedal Pushers: Fredericksburg Fall Foliage Frolic
by Roy and Christine
For 11 years the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club has been hosting an outstanding ride at Fredericksburg. The club seems to be as laid back as the ride. For example, the website for the ride states that those riding the longer rides can start any time between 8:30-9:30 AM.
Fredericksburg Fall Frollic
Some of us arrived Friday evening to enjoy the flavor and atmosphere of the German heritage village of Fredericksburg. Jerry Middleton, above left, Christine, and I arrived a little…

Biking Big Bend Ranch State Park
By Pam LeBlanc | Tuesday, November 2
I’m rolling out soon on my next adventure — a four-day, 108-mile mountain bike jaunt through Big Bend Ranch State Park, the more rugged and remote neighbor of Big Bend National Park.
Biking Big Bend
I’ve been itching to check out some of the new mountain bike trails there. We’ll be riding “The Other Side of Nowhere Epic Ride.” The loop starts west of Lajitas. From there, we’ll dodge cactus and tarantulas as we head north into the belly of the park. …

The link is below the rotating pictures above. Please take some time to look at the list (it is in city order) and let me know of any changes by using the “Contact Texbiker.net” form link above.
