About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

CAPTURED ON VIDEO: Austin bicyclists takeover I-35’s upper deck …
by Chris Apollo Lynn
My non-cycling friends always ask me what it’s like to ride with cars. And I always say that it’s like running with the buffalo: You’re sandwiched between these big, unpredictable beasts that could just bump into you and run you over without even batting an eye. It’s a sobering thought, but…

Warmer Fall Evening – September 29th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on September 29, 2010 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 29, 2010

[iframe http://connect.garmin.com:80/activity/embed/51079399 465 548]

Tonight’s ride was warmer than last night’s. I almost wore a long sleeve jersey but decided not to and I was comfortable the whole ride even after the sun went down. I came upon a number of people walking and riding on the trails beside the roads. Some had lights and some did not. The unlit ones were very difficult to see. The skies continue to be clear, temperature was 84 degrees and the wind was calm. Another cool front is expected this weekend so the Pineywoods Purgatory Bike Ride in Lufkin could be chilly.

I am still trying to get to 4,000 miles for the year and have a chance to make it tomorrow evening. Today’s riding statistics:

  • miles 17.54
  • riding time 1:20:33
  • average pace 4:36 min/mile
  • average speed 13.1 mph
  • max speed 19.0 mph
  • climb 54 ft., descend 58 ft., max elevation 80
  • no cadence sensor on my Raleigh M800
  • September miles 283.60
  • YTD miles 3983.56

Dog alert, again, on Duncan/Lakey
from Bike Denton by bikedenton
Last weekend, two cyclists reported being chased through SE Denton by a snarling, black, hyper-aggressive dog. This sounds like one of the same dogs that chased cyclists last year, giving us a terrifying three mile ordeal through the same neighborhood. After that incident, I started riding with pepper spray. …

Bikes in Mags and Fashion Ads

I’m also envious of individuals who set out to ride looking this chic. When I go out on my bike I dress to sweat. It’s inevitable in Texas. With the cooler temperatures setting in I like to wear less spandex and more casual wear while running … Bicycles are all over magazines this Fall. This Ralph Lauren in the Sept. issue of Elle first caught my attention because the model is dismounting her bicycle so gracefully. Rebar bike frames
via MAKE Magazine by Sean Michael Ragan on 9/28/10
Rebar bike
They’ve got to be heavy, and I can’t imagine how they might ride, but there’s no denying the post-apocalyptic awesomeness of sporting a bike you welded up yourself from a pile of rebar. Up top is a shot from the consistently-amusing-but-occassionally-offensive There, I Fixed It, that got me Googling around for more….
