Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Experience Texas History firsthand. Begin in Historic Downtown Goliad: The 10 mile ride takes you by the Mission Espiritu Santo, Presidio La Bahia, General Zaragoza’s Birthplace, The Angel of Goliad statue and the Fannin Memorial. The 30, 50, 85 mile rides take you through the rolling hills of the San Antonio River Bottom and beside the most historic ranchland in Texas. After your ride, take time to experience Texas Hospitality, and savor the full flavor of the History made in Goliad.

Come and ride the highest roads in Texas through the beautiful Davis Mountains

CYCLEFEST will be headquartered at the beautiful Prude Ranch, 5 miles west of Fort Davis Texas on Highway 118. Close to Fort Davis National Historical Park, McDonald Observatory, Davis Mountain State Park and Indian Lodge, the Marfa Lights and the scenic towns of Ft Davis, Marfa and Alpine.

Tour routes
CPSC, ANSI, SNELL OR ATSM HELMETS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.

10 miles – Into Fort Davis, enjoy town and return when ready. Some hills.
27 mile – Out and back along the Loop Route, rolling hills.
55 mile – Out and back along the Loop Route. Mostly rolling hills with a few climbs.
76 mile – Ride the Scenic Loop. Some VERY hard climbs.
Rest stops will be stationed along the routes with plenty of fruit, water and ice. The last rest stop will close at 4:00 P.M. Begin your ride early enough to take full advantage of them. Please carry water bottles and personal items with you.
Limited SAG Service will be provided until 4:00 PM. Please observe start time to ensure you have plenty of time to enjoy your ride.

Commemorative Cyclefest Jerseys will be available for sale in limited quantities. Participants will be able to view the jersey and place an order if desired.

September 18th–19th 2010

Saturday morning; The 34th Annual Cyclefest Tour kicks off from the Prude Ranch at 8.00 A.M. Ride at your own pace through terrain and distances to match your ability.

Massages will be available after the tour

Saturday evening; Enjoy a fun filled evening by starting with a great dinner at Prude Ranch from 6.00-7.30. During dinner, we will be handing out some great door prizes. We will have a drawing for special prizes and a raffle for this year’s model of the Giro Atmos helmet. The McDonald Observatory Visitor Center is open for Star Parties on Friday and Saturday evening. Sunday morning; The infamous MT LOCKE HILLCLIMB to the McDonald Observatory. Choose from;
1.5 miles: 9:00 A.M. start at the McDonald Observatory Visitors Center, 8 miles NW of Prude Ranch. Register at the Visitors Center from 8:00-8:45 A.M. Special prizes will be given for anyone making it to the top under their own power with their bicycle.
7 miles: For more of a challenge, start in the Limpia Valley floor and climb 7 miles to the Observatory. Register at the Solar panels 8:00-8:45 A.M., ride at 9:00. All riders who cross the finish line under their own power with their bicycle will receive a special prize. Cash prizes to the top men and women.

Love Cures Bike Tour – Temple, TX

The Robert S. Love BikeTour offers four rides throughout the picturesque central Texas countryside (10, 32, 53 and 67 Mile). The proceeds support innovative cancer research and treatment programs at Scott &  White Hospital. The entry fee for the bike tour is $40. For more information about the Robert S. Love Foundation and all the Love Cures events, please visit: http://www.lovecures.org The ride is sponsored by the Scott & White Community Cycling Club at http://cyclingclub.sw.org

Riders will receive a coolmax shirt and are invited to join us in a barbeque post-ride lunch. The bike course will be led out by the local Harley-Davidson chapter and is well supported with rest stops every 12-15 miles. There is a King and Queen of the Hill trophy for the first cyclist to reach the top of the Dana Peak climb.
