About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

They Almost Got Me – July 6th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 6, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJuly 6, 2010

The raindrops almost caught me near the end of the ride this evening. As I turned around to head back home I notice a darker cloud over where I was headed. The hope was it would move on or be further away than it looked. The temperature had warmed up to 90 degrees for most of the ride and when I first started the clouds were spread out nicely. But that changed as the sun moved down. Wind was 13 mph from the SE. Overall it was a good ride even though a few large raindrops were falling as I pulled into the driveway. Tomorrow the weatherman thinks there is a 70% chance of rain.

Watching stage 3 of the Tour de France was exciting. The cobblestones played a significant part in the stage results. Not enough hours to watch every move. Thank goodness for the DVR.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 24.07
  • ride time = 1:36:19
  • average pace = 4:00 min/mile
  • average speed = 15.0 mph
  • max speed = 20.5 mph
  • average cadence = 79.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 105 rpm
  • climb 189 ft., descend 194 ft., max elevation 88 ft.
  • July miles 103.48
  • YTD miles 2670.13
