About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

from Google Alerts – Texas bicycle by Dallas Observer (blog)
Ten minutes before the 5 o’clock kick-off of last night’s 2011 Dallas Bike Plan Open House, there were already some 100 folks milling about City Hall’s 6th Floor Flag Room. And by the time officials busted out the PowerPoint at 6, all but a handful of the seats in the 265-max-capacity council chambers were filled. But given the constant debate surrounding the subject of cycling ’round town, the turnout was no surprise. Cyclists and motorists alike want to know what the city — not to mention North Central Texas Council…

Friends, family feel absence of cyclist
by ReporterNews.com
Gerred was killed Wednesday after being hit by a car while cycling on Bacacita Farms Road.

City employees and cyclists were in a somber mood Thursday after a car-bicycle crash Wednesday took Susan Gerred’s life.

“She already had retired, and we had already dealt with her absence in a work capacity, but there was definitely an unspoken sadness that was in the air today throughout all of our offices,” said Steve Miller, recreation coordinator at Sears Park. “Without speaking it you could just feel the presence of everybody’s grief over this.” …

BILL CULLINS: McBride does much to give back to community
by San Angelo Standard Times
We have some very good endurance athletes here in San Angelo. We also have some good athletes who do more than just work out and race — they really make a difference in their community.

I want to spotlight one of those special people this week and award her the prestigious “Athlete Who Makes a Difference” award from Team San Angelo.

The athlete I’m referring to is Christina McBride, an accomplished adventure racer, mountain biker, road cyclist, runner, triathlete, coach, fitness instructor, and race organizer. She’s from the Goodfellow Air Force Base community and does a great job bringing civilian and military athletes together as they collectively enjoy endurance sports. …

This ride is to honor our beloved pastor, father, husband, and friend, David Eikenburg, who died tragically in a cycling accident on July 11, 2005.  He died doing what he loved, but his first love and passion was to share the love of Jesus. We would like to honor him with this bike ride, remembering what he loved, and then to glorify God by continuing David’s legacy and passion for spreading the Good News to people everywhere.
