About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Huffman Leos lend a hand at Humble Lions Club Bike Ride
from www.ourtribune.com
The Huffman Leo Club assisted the Humble Lions Club with their eighth annual Humble Bike Ride on Feb. 20. The Leo club was requested to man the children’s bike stop. They decorated the rest stop with a luau theme with tents wrapped in a beach scenery. The group served fresh fruit and individual bags of cookies and Goldfish crackers. The Leos provided water and Gatorade for riders. The kids’ ride is a 4-mile bike ride that started and ended at the Humble Civic Center. Proceeds benefit children with disabilities. …

by brendanpleonard

Cycling, Mountain Dad: Finally a long-ish ride!
by …it’s me!…
Got in 64 miles in 3.5 hours Saturday. Cloudy but not too cold. Started by warming up before the hour of power. Seemed like they went slower than hair-on-fire up to Arrowhead Golf course. The wind was pretty fierce that morning and we were all huddled up so that the poor soul in front of you was going to get the full effect of the wind whereas you were nice and tucked in. Being that bunched up of course made the hive squirrely because when somebody would stand up to get more watts in the climb the dude behind him would have to swerve or even worse hit the breaks (I swear people in here in Co are strong but squirrely, at least in TX…

The following is a guest post by Chip Seal of http://chipsea.blogspot.com/.  He has had several run in’s with the Ennis Police Department and here is his personal take on this situation:

I had learned to ride a bicycle in California, and rode it for thousands and thousands of miles in that state. So when I took up cycling again in Texas in 2006, I wanted to be sure I understood Texas bicycle specific law and how to safely navigate on a streetscape that had few wide lanes like had experienced in California. …

Pedal Pushers: Burma Loop
by Roy and Christine
The forecast was outstanding considering it is still February. It was to be a high of 63 and the wind 6-8 miles per hour. No excuses, so a social ride was called and I am glad we did it. Notwithstanding the social aspect of a group ride, Christine and I have a planned 100K ride at Bastrop next weekend. Whereas we have been having the opportunity to get in some rides over the winter months, the Burma Loop of 39 miles was to be our longest ride…

Two Days In a Row Riding on the Road

Texbiker.net Posted on February 28, 2010 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 28, 2010

This might be a first for the year riding two days straight on the road. The weather was bright sunlight and temperatures in the high 60’s. The wind was crisp but tolerable. Again no other riders sighted. My route covered some of the Humble Lions Ride which is not too far from my house. Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 25.14
  • time = 1:46:50
  • stopped time = 8:03
  • average speed = 14.1
  • max speed = 19.7 (wind speed was 18mph)
  • average pace = 4:15 min/mile
  • average cadence = 78
  • max cadence = 102
  • ascending = 300 ft, descending = 257
  • year to date miles = 486
