About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Humble Lions Bike Ride: Oh My, Am I Out of Shape!

Texbiker.net Posted on February 20, 2010 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 20, 2010

The lack of long (50 mile plus) rides was evident today during the ride. My shoulders and arms were just hanging on when I finished. I was so spent that I laid my cell phone down in the floor of my Jeep and could not find it later. (It had rolled out of sight against the body) The weather was good for the ride except for the cold (48 deg.) at the start. It was 68 when I finished.  The routes were clearly marked except at one turn on the 55 mile route but I made the correct turn. Later I decided not to follow a route marker when I should have and had to circle back to the last rest stop which I needed badly.

The numbers:

  • miles = 54.85
  • time riding = 3:47:18
  • time resting = 48:48
  • average speed = 14.5
  • max speed = 22.4
  • average cadence = 80.5
  • max cadence = 102

February 14, to Carmine, TX: Happy Valentine’s Day!
Sunday February 14, 2010, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 3,953 miles (6,362 km)
It started out very foggy so I waited until about 8:45 to leave. The road had a good wide shoulder so I rode even though there was a bit of fog left. After riding for about an hour, the sun came out for the rest of the day. The hills continued all day long, but the wind had died down and the scenery was pretty, so it made for a pleasant ride most of the way.

I stopped in the small town of Independence, the birthplace of Texas. …

Shrink to Fit: Bike me.
by tena
Today we had sun. Lots of sun. It’s still kinda chilly, but having the sun up in that big, blue, Texas sky, was just what my soul needed today. I’ve been doing very little self-care lately. Mostly, letting stress be the dictator of my mood. I’m looking for validation in all the wrong places, again. …

DFW Point-to-Point: Cycling’s Deep Secret
