Anyway, I was in need of a mental health day so I got the chance to slip away…

Cycling in Graduate School: Snow/Icey roads=Indoor trainer

In case you have not seen any news this week, we got a lot of snow in the Dallas TX area. The DFW airport got 12.5 inches of snow (yes that is a record). So despite several hours above freezing yesterday the roads this morning … This mornings trainer ride was the first for the year and my lack of riding in the last few weeks really showed. Trike Note #4: Seeing and Being Seen « Easy Street Articles
by Thad Sitton
…You can ride your trike or other hpv on bike trails or veloways and–to a degree–not worry about this, but if you ride the streets and roads with with automobiles you need to make arrangements for seeing and being seen. I think that one reason motorists discern trikes so well and give them so much room on the road is because trikers are, as it were, running scared. They feel low-down and potentially unobserved and so take nothing for granted. Instead they fly flags six feet high, wear optic clothing, and display flashing red lights that emphatically grab drivers’ attention. Road bikers will not do things like that, though some non-cutting-edge types wear optic jerseys. …

Those Good Rides (Follow-up post) « Bike Noob
by rainycamp
There was less response to the post about the “big†rides you plan for the coming year than I would have liked, but I’m guessing that’s because most of my readers in North America and Europe are still in the depths of winter and perhaps haven’t given it much thought.
Nolan Kuehn mentioned what I hope will become a favorite of mine: The LBJ 100 in Stonewall, Texas. I say I hope it will become one, because I haven’t ridden it yet. Last year, I was all set to head out there for the ride, when I woke up …
If you have installed any accessories on your bike you have experienced the challenge of trying to get that cable tie tight enough to hold the new item where you want it. My latest addition was the Garmin 305 Edge computer and the cadence/rear wheel pickup unit. Try as I might I could not get the cable ties tight enough to keep the sensor unit in place when I tapped it or moved my bike shoe too close. Then I remembered that there is a cable tie tool for that job. Checking online I saw prices as low as $7.99 and as high as $40. Obviously the $40 one was not to be considered and the $7.99 one turned into $16 when the shipping was added. Today after taking my wife out for Valentine’s Day dinner I thought why not stop at the local Ace Hardware. Walking into the store the clerk offered to direct us to the cable tie section but he did not think they had a cable tie tool. But there on the wall was this nice red beauty. On top of that it was only $8.99. Jackpot! The instructions were meager to say the least but in no time I was replacing the limp cable ties with new tight ones. The sensor and the Edge holder are now firmly in place.
