About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Crazy Cat Cyclery Now Giant Store
by Bicycle Retailer
During the build-out of his new Giant Brand Store in El Paso, Texas, Crazy Cat Cyclery owner Roberto Barrio said, “I’m a really good bike guy, but I’m not a very good merchandising guy. I learned so much from Giant about how to layout a store.”

On January 22 and 23, Barrio and his staff celebrated the grand opening of his third—and largest—Crazy Cat Cyclery. Hundreds of regular patrons and new customers turned out for a kick-off party, group rides, raffle giveaways, a barbecue, and stunt-show performances by Giant pro and urban freeride legend Jeff Lenosky (see video on front page). …

Sassy & Thin in 2010: Oooooo, watcha sa-ay & other Ramblings.
by Olivia
But I was so sore from that bike ride, plus lifting weights which I haven’t done in a while. So, I’ll be running when I get home tonight and getting on my spinning bike for 30 minutes….Actually, depending on if the sun is still out, I might run and bike outside!! That would make me uber happy! Oh, and I’m on my 5th bottle of water, as we speak. So, I’m sure I can get up to 6. And then, after this great day, … Houston, Texas, United States. Bent Finger Chronicles: Super Bowl Ride
by J. Gregory Shugart
The Greater Dallas Bicycling Club sponsors an annual ride to Downtown Dallas on Super Bowl Sunday. It really is one of the traditions of momentum. From all over the metorplex, cyclists ride from their local bike shop to the West End. … I did find myself riding with the front group until we hit the Loop 12 Hill on 180 heading into downtown. I finished the ride with some old Texas Wheels friends, always worth the ride. Posted by J. Gregory Shugart at 6:26 AM …

Whitney Schultz: First Race Weekend of 2010
by Whitney
School is now well underway and now racing is too! This weekend was the kick off to the 2010 racing season. The first was in Belterra, a community just southwest of Austin. The course was “L” shaped with small hills on either end of the L with a U-turn at the top. For those that haven’t figured it out, I’m racing for Metro again this season. We did well attacking one after the other until a break that was good for us was formed- Saturday it ended up being Lauren with Kelly Benjamin from Colavita. I just sat at or near the front and covered moves with Jen. Once the break was more than…

Now Open: Slaughter Creek Trail in SW Austin
by Austinist
There is a new place to hike and bike in town! In 1998, Austin voters approved bonds to buy water protection land. On Friday, February 5th, thanks to 4,000 hours of help from volunteers (including the Austin Ridge Riders), the City of Austin Water Utility Department agreed to share a one-foot wide strip on their 700 acres. To the right, Britt Jones, the employee who managed the project, cuts one of four orange ribbons. This is the first of what the Water Utility Department hopes will be many opportunities to share access with the public. …

Rain+Cold Front=Windtrainer Tonight

Texbiker.net Posted on February 8, 2010 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 8, 2010

It looked like it might be warm enough to go for an evening ride but as you can see from the post title by the time I pulled into the garage from work the rain was starting to fall as the next cold front rolls into town. So the windtrainer came out of the closet and I rode 11.26 miles to nowhere.

The data charts.

Super Squadra: On Top at Belterra
By Sarah
The annual spring circuit races at Belterra have treated our team quite nicely over the years. Phil landed our first ever team P-1-2 win at Belterra in 2008 and a we finished out 2nd place in 2009. We were able to leap back up to the top of the podium this year on yet another back-breaking course with many feet of climbing, a very strong field, and an extended warm up/ cool down to get the day to Walburg workload levels. …

Bike the Borderline: Lazing in Leakey
Ant and Kat
“Stop the Press” A rest day without doing laundry? We’re not complaining. Yesterday was sooo gut-bustingly difficult we just had to chill all day today. How those Tour de France guys do what they do is just unbelievable. And before any of you purists start mumbling under your breath in mockery of our comparison to the Gods of Cycling, you may want to know that yesterday’s cycling route was often used by the one and only Louis no sorry Neil no we mean Lance Armstrong for training and is still commonly used by USA Pro cyclists…so there. …
