About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike MS Cactus n’ Crude – Midland, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on January 22, 2010 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 2, 2010

About the ride:
The Bike MS Cactus n’ Crude is a two day, 150 mile ride that begins in Midland, overnights in Big Spring, and ends in Post.
Around 7 a.m. Saturday, July 17th, about a dozen members of the West Texas Cycling Association, along with 200 other riders, will head south out of Midland. About 20 miles on down the road, we’ll head east and then back north on into Big Spring where we’ll recuperate after the first day’s 75 miles. Sunday morning at 7 a.m. we’ll head north out of Big Spring and begin the second day’s 75 mile trek heading for Post.

Donation Information:
The dozen or so of us who will be riding the ride would like to raise $7,500–about $600 each. $600 is quite a bit, but certainly attainable with your help.
Any amount is OK (in past years we’ve received individual donations from as small as $5 to as much as $300).

Fund raising for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, West Texas
Join us for a ride that you will never forget.  Enjoy the West Texas scenery and the one of a kind camaraderie.  On day 1, the ride will start in Midland and take you 75 miles through Garden City to Big Spring where you will overnight.  Day 2 will take you another 75 miles from Big Spring through Gail and on to the final destination in Post.  This thrilling weekend ride is fully supported with SAG vehicles, route mechanics, massage therapists, festive rest areas, plenty of food, and lots of wonderful volunteers.  You don’t want to miss it!

Third Road Ride This Week

Texbiker.net Posted on January 21, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 21, 2010

The weather was picture perfect today. By the time I got home the sun was on the way over the horizon and the temperature was starting to cool. It was 71 degrees when I left on my ride and 60 degrees when I got back. I had some how guessed on the right amount of clothing and was comfortable the whole ride. Maybe I can get some fitness in. Here are the charts and map. Total distance was 18.26 miles in 1:24:12 time.

Route for January 21st from my Garmin Edge 305

Team San Angelo: Looking Ahead
by Bill Cullins
This time last winter I was finishing cyclocross season and starting base training for the upcoming year. The 2009 season didn’t work out the way I had planned, with health issues forcing me to miss most of the events I normally partcipate in. However, I’ve finished all of the cancer-related treatments, and I celebrated by racing the 2010 Texas Cyclocross Championships on January 16…

Campy 10sp or 11sp? – Women’s Cycling Discussion Forums
from www.teamestrogen.com
My SRAM chain didn’t even last a season and replaced it with Ultegra. And I don’t race. Just a casual weekend rider these days. For my casual riding and training on hills with 10% grade, I rarely use the top two cogs anyway. I only use 8 cogs in the rear. smilingcat is offline ….

Lonestar Cyclocross Festival: A Pro Roadie’s Perspective by Kelly …
by jliberles
Wow, Cyclocross is hard. And muddy. But talk about fun! Being from the undisputed cyclocross mecca of Portland, Oregon, I have seen my fair share of ‘cross races this season, but have only competed in one in my entire career. Now I know why: no drafting, no sitting in and no teammates to help you out make for a really hard effort.

I don’t know much about how a course should…

FtW CycEx: The positive side of averages
by rab
Statistics generally annoy me as they are often used by people with an agenda. Sometimes fairly, sometimes downright fraudulently, which might only be noted by a good statistician, a set that does not include me.

Averages are something I pay a lot of attention to, particularly this time of year, specifically, average temperatures.

The month of December was a good example. I spent…
