About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

POA Cycling Team will ride in style | Low Cadence
by Jonathan Pait
After a little trouble getting through customs due to a misplaced packing slip, my team’s kits arrived for us to pick up yesterday. So, I left work about 30 minutes early to head over to Sunshine Cycle Shop to pick mine up. I’m very pleased that we are using the same design this year, but I was a little disappointed with one mix up.

First for the good news. These kits got a bit of attention…

Audax Ride: Friday Follies ~~ The Long Hot Ride
by Steve
Steve: I’m an old guy who’s been riding bikes forever. I work in a bike shop, ride a LOT, lead a goodly number of rides, and love all things bicycle. View my complete profile … That first ride in Texas was both a joy and a disappointment. The joy came from once again being aboard my old friend. The disappointment came from… Well I was in terrible shape, and I didn’t know my way around. It was a short ride. I vowed to fix both of those things soon. I did start riding. …

Conquering Cancer: My First Bike Ride
by Runi
My name is Runi Limary and I was diagnosed November 16, 2005 just a few weeks shy of my 29th birthday. I was repeatedly told that I was too young and too healthy to have breast cancer. Cancer is not prejudice to anyone regardless of age, race or socioeconomic. This is my story and I hope people learn a great deal from it. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want to simply talk.

Riding the 2nd Annual Texas Mamma Jamma ride holds much significance. I bought my mountain bike before I was diagnosed. I rode mainly at Walnut Creek and did trials and hills that impressed me. The exhilaration of the climb or from …

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for January 7th

Texbiker.net Posted on January 7, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 7, 2010

I was reading Dr. Mirkin’s latest email newsletter and was struck by the lead off  article about exercise, “More Exercise is Better”. I have heard, or read, that you should exercise 20 minutes or more at an intense heart rate for exercise to have any benefit. According to this article, “Dr. Paul Williams of the University of California at Berkeley thinks that the American Heart Association’s recommendation of “half an hour a day of exercise” is way too little.”  The article goes on to discuss how excess sugar in the blood stream affects our health. So you need to exercise more an skip the donuts. Longer rides and no sweet breaks. You can read the full article at www.drmirkin.com (January 10th newsletter.)

Texas New Year « thrubike.net
By thrubike
We have some catching up to do with all that we’ve done since we left Austin on Monday December 28th.  It’s been an interesting ride, here’s the details:
Texas New Year
We rode 72 miles from Austin to Palmetto State Park in Luling, Texas the first day back on the road.  We just made it to the park at sunset and had a beautiful descent down into the park with pink skies above us.  The rain started the next morning and didn’t stop for the next 24 hours.  We moved our tent to the driest spot…

Real life adventures while cycling in Texas, 32.3° N 96.6° W
by Chipseal
Since I live about 170 miles north of the City of Manor, I can only fantasize about protesting in person their bicycle ban. But I have some ideas about how to make some noise about it if I lived in Austin.

I would drive my bicycle up to the edge where bicycle use is prohibited. I would dismount and take off my cleats and socks. I would then cross the road…

A “Hey, I’m On The Radio!” Note from Fatty: I’m on The Story with Dick Gordon today. You can listen to it on public radio stations or listen to it online here (the Listen Now link is at the bottom of the page, and the direct link to the MP3 file is here).

I am not a reckless consumer. I consider all my purchases carefully, and do my best to do without if I can make do with what I already have. Consider, for a moment, my bicycles. Clearly, the Superfly 29″ fully rigid singlespeed and the Waltworks 29″ fully rigid singlespeed are very different bikes — one has a carbon frame, one has a steel frame. And they have different cranks, too. …

The former Pasadena Memorial High School football and soccer player will begin doing it in less than six months after completing his junior year at the University of Texas.

Daily News Roundup January 6th – Texas Bicycling

Texbiker.net Posted on January 7, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 7, 2010

A rare arctic cold air mass is headed for southeast Texas. Unless I want to do my polar bear impersonation this means no outdoors riding this weekend. According to our weathermen the temperatures have not been this low since December 1996. For a temperature wimp like me, anything below 60 degrees is frost bite territory.

Excruciation Exam: 87 Miles of MTB in Texas Hill Country – Highflange
by Milin
…On to the news: I was out in Central Texas for an 87 mile endurance race. Highflange reader Christopher Michael Aguillard, a member of Team Bicycle World and Fitness pestered me into getting off the couch, cleaning the Christmas Cake and French Fry crumbs off my bib shorts and face and hitting the trails. The ride was aptly named.
Excruciation Exam
It began with a lap of the trails at Warda, then a road portion all the way through some paved hills to Rocky Hill Ranch, then a 24 mile lap of Rocky Hill’s trails, then back to Warda…
