Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Outlaw Trail 100 – Round Rock, TX

This event features 10mi, 25mi, 40mi, 50mi, 100km and 100mi courses through Williamson County. This event isn’t competitive, it is an opportunity to join cyclists from across Texas to ride for fun. There are rest stops located every 12-14 miles that are set up along the trail for cyclists to grab some snacks or a drink. The tour closes at 5pm, so cyclists should select a course they can finish within that time period.

$30 (on or before 09-27-09); $35 (on or before 10-15-09). Please see website for additional registration information.

This ride is the very popular Luci Johnson tour of the LBJ Ranch and Texas White House area. The emphasis this year is on family participation, but the tour is also open to adults without younger riders.

The route is approximately nine miles and takes about 2 hours. There are several stops along the way, with Luci recounting the history and her special memories at each location. Fees include a T-shirt guaranteed for those registered by 30 September, and a tour of the refurbished rooms of the Texas White House. Join in with us!

The Sweatin’ Burnt Orange Bike Tour, now in its fifth year, is the primary fundraising event for The University of Texas Cycling Club. From the family friendly 10 miler to the challenging 80 mile loop, all routes offer a unique ride through the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

Registration is limited to 500 riders, so be sure to register early!

Tour de Fire Ant – Marshall, TX

Registration fee is $25 and $30 on the day of race. Ride options range from 30 miles to 100 miles.
DISTANCES

* 10-mile course for beginning and recreational cyclists winds through the streets of Marshall
* 30-45-mile courses are made up of rolling hills and a few challenging climbs.
* The 100K course consist of a wide variety of terrain. Flat stretches combined with rolling hills and a few climbs. A definite challenge for the experienced cyclist.
* Each paid participant over 21 years of each who are eligible for a chance to win a Trek-Road Bike – donated by Michelob Ultra.
* You must be present to win.
