About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

May Monthly Ride Report

Texbiker.net Posted on June 2, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJune 2, 2009

May was an enjoyable time to ride. Weather was not much of a factor although I did get caught in the rain once or twice. The grit and grime is the worst part of riding in the rain. I did not ride in any organized rides during May. I did expand my routes in the Huffman and Crosby area. The construction on US59 is moving further north so I have been able to start riding there again.  Other highlights for the month:

  • rode 23 days out of 31
  • average mile per ride = 27.2
  • longest ride = 49.09
  • shortest ride = 22.72
  • M800 mountain bike miles = 0
  • Mercier bike road miles = 626.85
  • goal for May miles was 543

Texas Mountain Bike Time Trial – Canyon Lake, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on June 2, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJune 2, 2009

The 6.somethink kilometer Time Trial course starts at the first road crossing on a section of trail
known as The Flying Cactus (named for cactus that can be seen growing in various oak trees along
that section of trail). It then heads over to Uncle Rico’s Pass, Moonscape, bypassing the Boatramp
Section (you can try to ride that section later if you’d like), cross the 2nd road crossing (start of the
12/10 and under course) through the IMBA section and finishing at the Mojofest Headquarters
pavilion. There is not a significant amount of elevation change. There are several challenging rock
gardens that will test your technical riding skills.
