About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Daily Blog and News Roundup for May 23rd

Texbiker.net Posted on May 23, 2009 by Rick AnkrumMay 23, 2009

The news is thin and far between today. Not one blog posting or news item.

While I was doing my Saturday ride today I was riding in the opposite direction to a steady stream of riders from what I am guessing is the QLS fitness club in Atascocita. This was a nice change from not seeing anyone.

Another sight was the signs on FM2100 fro Crosby to Huffman put up for Memorial Day. This is a distance of about 7 miles. About every 50 feet there was the sign with a large yellow ribbon and the name of a person in the military with the words “Thanks” and “In your honor”. Quite fitting for the men and women who have served our country.

Sadly though I had a flat tire close to the end of my ride so I had to fix that and the delay was enough to position me to get rained on as I rode the .7 of a mile home. No rain anywhere else, just my street. This was a reason to rotate my tires when I got home. I had been thinking of doing this to even out the tread wear and tear.

Overall I ended up riding just over 49 miles today. My goal for May is 543 miles and I am at 453 after today’s ride. Barring any major problems I should exceed my goal, maybe even amke it to 600 miles for the month.

The biggest challenge of the day was installing a ceiling fan in my house. 12 foot ceilings and a bed in the way made the installation a 4 hour ordeal. Thank goodness this is over.
