About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Greater Dallas Bicyclists Spread the Christmas Cheer

Texbiker.net Posted on December 25, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 25, 2008

Our local club http://www.gdbclub.com/ has been having a Santa ride for about 20 years from what I have been told, this year we met in North Dallas to ride to Highland Park and meet up with Santa and the van of gifts and more riders. We rode with Santa to a Family Shelter in Downtown and sang carols and donated the gifts and money our club had rounded up. This made me feel very lucky indeed.

Visit Texas cycling and sailing with Dennis for pictures and more information.

Family on Bikes: A Night in the Inn (Del Rio, Texas, USA)

Texbiker.net Posted on December 25, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 25, 2008

The Vogel family left June 8, 2008 for a 2 1/2 year bicycle trip traversing the Pan-American Highway from Alaska to Argentina.

From their blog on December 24th:

“It was Christmas Eve. Four weary travelers rolled into Del Rio looking for a room at the inn – or the Ramada Inn, as the case may be.
The Ramada here in Del Rio has generously offered to sponsor our journey with two nights in the Inn, so we are now basking in the luxuriousness around us – and treasuring every moment!
Today was one of those days when we would normally be thrilled to be on the road. Temps got up into the 70’s, the sun was shining brightly, the sky was crystal clear… In short – absolutely perfect!”

Houston Light Rail Cars: No in Car Bike Racks

Texbiker.net Posted on December 23, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 23, 2008

from Bikes on Houston’s Light Rail

For over a year, BikeHouston and Citizens Transportation have worked to get bike racks installed on the coming METRO light rail trains, which would’ve made bikes + light rail an unbeatable intermodal combo.

Despite letters from Judge Ed Emmett, all four Republican and Democratic Harris County Commissioners, and other public officials, METRO is going to place orders for the new trains on Christmas Eve 2008… without any in-cabin racks for bicycle. Our contact at the FTA, the funding agency for the trains, is extremely concerned, but FTA cannot compel METRO to order trains with bike racks.

It looks like we’ve failed at this point.
