About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike Shipments Soften Through Third Quarter

Texbiker.net Posted on December 5, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 5, 2008

from bicycleretailer.com

BY MATT WIEBE

It appears that high gas prices and growing environmental concerns had no positive impact on suppliers in the third quarter. Bike shipments to retailers fell 4 percent during the first nine months of the year according to the latest report from the Bicycle Supplier Products Association.

The steepest declines were in shipments of juvenile bikes, with non-BMX 20-inch bikes down 14 percent, BMX/freestyle bikes down 13 percent and bikes with 19-inch and smaller wheels down 12 percent. Bucking the trend in kids’ bikes, suppliers shipped more 24-inch bikes during the first three quarters; the category was up 6 percent.

Doug Fattic Framebuilding Class Update: Day 1, Cold and overwhelmed

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

Elliott McFadden writes at austinbikeblog.org

This article is part of a series I’m writing about my experience taking a bicycle framebuilding class with master frame builder, Doug Fattic.

I woke up before dawn this morning ready to get started. Since we don’t meet for class until 9 AM and I hadn’t exercised since Thankgiving, I got up and went for a run around Niles. It was quiet and snowing on my run and much of the town is quite charming in a rust belt way. The older part is along the river with surronding hills.
