About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cyclocross North Texas Style

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

By DAN X. McGRAW / The Dallas Morning News
dmcgraw@dallasnews.com

High-speed crashes, muddy courses and screaming fans sound more like the makings of a monster-truck rally than a cycling event. But cyclo-cross isn’t your typical bike ride around the block.

A cross between mountain biking and road cycling – with a few makeshift obstacles in between – the sport of cyclo-cross has moved into North Texas. Each Tuesday, Bill Cody Park in Garland transforms into a course riddled with caution tape, logs and 15-inch wooden barriers.

Read more at the Dallas Morning News. There is a video as well.

Shaun Taylor Moves South; Finds MTB Texas Style

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

Dale Robertson’s Cycling Notebook in today’s Houston Chronicle tells how Shaun Taylor moved from Calgary, Alberta, where he was into moutain bike racing to Houston. The change meant leaving what he thought was the perfect MTB location and then landing in Houston with no mountains except for the highway overpasses. Once here though he learned about the Texas mountain bike race series.

An excerpt, “Shaun Taylor had come to love endurance racing on his mountain bike with an unabashed, unapologetic passion. And living in Calgary, Alberta, he had the Rocky Mountains for a playground.

Then a seemingly terrible thing happened. His wife, Doreen, a projects manager for Fluor, was transferred to Houston for a long-term special assignment. Taylor didn’t know much about the upper Texas coast, but he wasn’t going to have to do much Googling to figure out that we were pretty bereft of mountains here.”

Doohickie Blogs About The Turkey Roll Ride in Denton

Texbiker.net Posted on November 30, 2008 by Rick AnkrumNovember 30, 2008

Doohickie writes about his ride and has a number of pictures. If you have not seen a Workman bike in a few years one of his riding buddies is on a yellow two-top tube Workman.

His opening comments: “I rode in the Turkey Roll the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It is a 25 or 35 or 76 mile ride around Denton, Texas, organized as a fundraiser by the local Kiwanis Club.

With temps around 40 and gray skies, if I hadn’t committed to do this ride, I probably wouldn’t have been on a bike that morning. I don’t have all kinds of fancy biking gear, so I made due with what I’ve got:”
