About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

DORBA brings off-road biking trails to North Texas

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

from SMUdailycampus.com
Thomas Faust, Contributing Writer, tfaust@smu.edu

Imagine the wind sweeping past your face while your hands tightly clench the handlebars of a bike as you ride down a rocky trail. There are tall trees and large boulders surrounding you, creating a possible hazard at every bend and turn of the course.

No, you’re not riding down some mountain trail in Colorado. The same thrill and level of mountain biking can be found in our own backyard.

Boulder Park in Duncanville, Texas, is just one of nearly 30 trails in the North Texas area that is maintained by the Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association (DORBA). So get ready to dust the cobwebs off your old bicycle in the back of the garage and get riding!

Super Squadra: Winter Taining Ride Part 2

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

Super Squadra writes this in a post on December 1st:
Last week I talked about my winter training ride to Lockhart for some good ole Texas BBQ. To continue my two part series on the best winter training rides, this week I’m going to talk about my ride that I had in Clear Lake, Texas.

Clear Lake is a suburb south of Houston and is the home of the Tilson Homes cycling team. I was down in Clear Lake visiting my in-laws with my wife and wanted to get a good ride in when I was down there. I had done a ride down there before and really loved the different style and scenery that the area has. Coming from Austin, I’m used to doing the same routes and dealing with the same type of rides. Being able to do something new was a great change and really had me excited about the ride.

Cyclocross North Texas Style

Texbiker.net Posted on December 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 4, 2008

By DAN X. McGRAW / The Dallas Morning News
dmcgraw@dallasnews.com

High-speed crashes, muddy courses and screaming fans sound more like the makings of a monster-truck rally than a cycling event. But cyclo-cross isn’t your typical bike ride around the block.

A cross between mountain biking and road cycling – with a few makeshift obstacles in between – the sport of cyclo-cross has moved into North Texas. Each Tuesday, Bill Cody Park in Garland transforms into a course riddled with caution tape, logs and 15-inch wooden barriers.

Read more at the Dallas Morning News. There is a video as well.
