About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Push for Better Trails in Beaumont

Texbiker.net Posted on November 17, 2008 by Rick AnkrumNovember 17, 2008

from beaumontenterprise.com

by Gary Laney

There are plenty of “trails” for someone to ride a bicycle in Beaumont.

Unfortunately, said local cycling enthusiast Eric Bender, they call the trails “streets.”

“First of all, there are potholes everywhere and they just aren’t a good place to ride,” said Bender, owner of a bike shop on the Interstate 10/Eastex Freeway split. “Then, you have the traffic.”

Combined, those factors make Beaumont far from an ideal place to ride, although there are dedicated enough local cyclists to give it a try.

Groups of riders meet at various locations four times a week to ride together through some of roads less traveled in the Beaumont area and/or highways that have wide enough shoulders for bike riders to co-exist with traffic.

Start 2009 Riding Your Bike

The Tradition Returns
For several years, new friends and old friends have been joining me for a nice bike ride in the country – with some black-eyed peas and cornbread for dessert. This year we are bringing back our same traditional ride and eat experience, with a bit of a twist or two.
