About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Griffin predicts beautiful weekend for Dam bike ride

Texbiker.net Posted on October 23, 2007 by Rick AnkrumOctober 23, 2007

from the Jasper Newsboy (full article link)

Up to 200 riders will converge on Jasper for the fourth annual Dam to Dam Bike Ride this Saturday, Oct. 27.

Organizer Ky Griffin said it’s not a race but a personal challenge. "There’s always guys you want to beat. You keep up with your time. I’m a member of the Coca Cola cycling team, and I know there’s guys on the team and other people who will be in the event, and I just want to beat their time," Griffin said with a laugh.

Dani Rudd, 15, competes in off-road cycling

Teen cyclist focuses on training, advancing Gearing Up

from lubbockonline.com (full article link)

Dani Rudd, 15, sped along a dirt path on an open field in East Lubbock. He made a turn, climbing a steep, bumpy hill, then swung back around, ready to make yet another lap. To the untrained eye, the 0.6-mile loop across the street from the American Wind Power Center and Museum doesn’t look like much. But the slopes, turns and obstacles put a strain on the young cyclist – exactly what he and his father wanted when they built the course.

The Coronado High School sophomore competes in off-road cycling. He says he is currently ranked third in the state and seventh nationally in the junior expert men 15-16 age group in cross-country mountain biking.

Dallas PD Anger Cyclists with White Rock Lake Ticketing

Texbiker.net Posted on October 10, 2007 by Rick AnkrumOctober 10, 2007

from nbc5i.com (full article link)

Many cyclists have complained about Dallas police’s enforcement of laws governing bicyclists at White Rock Lake.

Police said people on bicycles were getting lax with the rules of the road in the area. They have stepped up enforcement, issuing tickets to cyclists for not wearing helmets and even for running stop signs.

Keith Burgess-Jackson Recounts His Tour de Argyle

Texbiker.net Posted on October 8, 2007 by Rick AnkrumOctober 8, 2007

link to his blog post

Yesterday, in Argyle, Texas, I did my 22d bike rally of the year and my 418th overall. It was the first year for this rally, so I didn’t know what to expect. The terrain would probably be familiar, since I’ve done the nearby Flower Mound and Keller rallies many times, but it remained to be seen how well organized the rally was. The weather at this time of year can be anything from hot to frigid. It turned out to be warm (the high temperature for the day was 88° Fahrenheit) and humid. The sun never came out. Whenever I felt inclined to complain about the muggy weather, I reminded myself that I could be running instead of bicycling. It would be truly awful to do a long run in such weather. I’ve done quite a few of them, so I know whereof I speak.
