About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame Will Induct Bernie Anderson

Texbiker.net Posted on September 15, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 15, 2007

from emediawire.com

Bernie Anderson is a pioneer in the sport of BMX having his start in 1976. Originally from Jackson County and Kanawha County West Virginia and a resident of San Antonio, Texas since 1954; Bernie Anderson became a leader in the BMX racing community during its formative years. It is Anderson’s drive and love of the sport that has kept him active during the decades of growth the sport has realized. Bernie started four state-of-the-art BMX racing facilities in Southwestern Texas and was a force that led the sport to prominence throughout the state. Known for his hospitality, Anderson has always enjoyed entertaining amateur and Pro racers from all around the country including fellow U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame members Toby Henderson, Greg Hill and Stu Thompson.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is to be held October 20, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Not long ago, Buddy Boren conquered cancer. Now he’s taking on Texas.

The wiry 64-year-old cancer survivor is biking alone across the state on a quest to raise awareness about the disease that kills more than 500,000 Americans each year and nearly killed him.

He’s also raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps soldiers injured overseas to transition to civilian life.

This is Boren’s sixth time on a long-distance bicycle jaunt.

Previous rides have taken the Dallas native around Texas’ perimeter, all the way to Los Angeles and even from Dallas to New York.

New 3.1-mile primitive trail at Kit McConnico Park

Texbiker.net Posted on September 11, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 11, 2007

from Lufkin Daily News (full article)

Lufkin residents craving a little bit of nature can visit the new 3.1-mile trail at Kit McConnico Park.

The Deep East Texas Trail and Route Access Coalition built the new pathway, known as a primitive trail because of its more natural aspect, for anyone interested in hiking or mountain biking.

Rick Ainsworth, who headed up the creation of the bike trail as a member of DETTRAC, compared the path to the type of trail a rider might see in a national forest or in Colorado.
