About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Trail Expansions in Two Parks

Texbiker.net Posted on September 6, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 6, 2007

In today’s Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook, Dale Robertson reports that GHORBA has received two grants to expand the trails at Joe Barton Jr. Park in Conroe and Roy Burroughs Park in northwest Harris County. Joe Barton trails grow by three miles while new trails will be constructed in Roy Burroughs Park.

“The Greater Houston Off-Road Bicycling Association (GHORBA) has received a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant for more than $45,000 to build an additional three miles of multipurpose trails plus new bridges in the heavily wooded Carl Barton Jr. Park just east of Conroe. GHORBA President Mike Cumonski says it will pay a professional trail-building company to do the work but will handle all future maintenance using volunteer work crews.”

“GHORBA also received a $5,000 grant from REI sporting goods to develop new trails in Roy Burroughs Park in far northwest Harris County, near The Woodlands.”

Can’t bikers, drivers achieve peaceful coexistence?

Texbiker.net Posted on September 6, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 6, 2007

from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (full article)

by Gretchen Arnold
truck driver & bicyclist

I am you. I am your neighbor and your friend. I am a daughter, a sister, a mom, and a grandmother. Our kids went to the same school and we go to the same church. We’ve enjoyed each others’ company at business meetings and social gatherings. We shop at the same grocery store and exchange greetings over the dairy section. I am part of our South Texas family and enjoy our South Texas hospitality.

Wherever I go, I am greeted warmly, treated with respect, and people are friendly. The many people I interact with daily would not think of doing anything to jeopardize my safety or begrudge the bit of space I happen to be taking up at the time. I drive a truck.
