Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

14th Annual Tour de Braz – Alvin, TX

The Tour de Braz Bike Ride will take you on one of 5 bike rides on distances ranging from 10 to 100 miles throughout beautiful and historic Brazoria County. Distances offered: 10 mile, 30 mile, 50 mile, 62 mile and 100 mile. Alvin Community College 3110 Mustang Rd.

Individual: $30.00
Tandem (2 people on 1 bike): $40.00
Family (4 people – only 2 t-shirts): $60.00

Safe Passing Bill

A bill being considered during the current state legislature session in Austin. The Safe Passing Bill would require a motorist to give at least three feet of clearance when passing a bicyclist and would require a commercial vehicle to give at least six feet of clearance when passing a bicyclist.

Lufkin City council OKs funding to finish hike-bike trail

The Lufkin City Council at its meeting Tuesday unanimously approved a funding request to complete the hiking/biking/walking trail at Kit McConnico Park. The request for funding for $8,000 came from the Deep East Texas Trail and Route Access Coalition (DETTRAC), and the money will be given from the general fund of the city budget.

DIY 3 Watt LED Headlight Project

Make Magazine posted this article detailing how to make a three LED 3 Watt headlight. This thing is for serious off-road riding in one of those 24-hour endurances races. But you could use it for less serious needs. Full instructions.
