About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Southern Tier West to East 2022

By Jim Elicker | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 37: Austin to LaGrange: A long day

Tuesday November 8, 2022, 89 miles (143 km) – Total so far: 1,794 miles (2,887 km) We left our place in Austin early, about 8:00 AM, but it took us more than 2 hours (18 mi) to make it out of the city. Google Maps befuddled us again. It just doesn’t do very well in places where there are new roads, like new housing developments. We eventually found our way back to the ACA route and headed toward Bastrop. After a rest there, we rode 14 miles through 2 state parks. Beautiful, but quite hilly. We found ourselves in pine woods for the first time. Very different terrain and climate from west Texas! And it was very humid today, we were really sweating even though it was not so hot, about …

Day 38: La Grange to Navasota: Green Fields and Fracking

Wednesday November 9, 2022, 66 miles (106 km) – Total so far: 1,860 miles (2,993 km) Today was a much better ride than yesterday. Still challenging, but we didn’t have to find our way out of s as big city, and we rode fewer miles, all in the daylight! We left La Grange at about 8:00 after a stop at the donut shop. Much of the ride today was through rolling fields of grass, with scattered old live oaks and occasional herds of fancy looking cows. Several small towns, including Warrenton and Round Top, where according to the cafe lady in Round Top, occurs the largest antique selling festival in North America, twice a year. Among the cows and hills we saw several fracking installations, and the two lane roads were …

Paceline Through Porter Before My Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on November 10, 2022 by Rick AnkrumNovember 10, 2022

This morning while I was out running an errand on Loop 494 I saw a group of about a dozen cyclists riding north. One of the beauties of a pack is the various jerseys everyone is wearing. This was a colorful group setting a strong pace, determined to get where they were going.

After seeing the croup of cyclists I went home and got ready for my bike ride. I went the opposite direction to the south and east on my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route. I rode my Lynskey Helix bike which I aired up the tires to about 80 psi before I started at 10:39 AM. The ride was firm but rolled nicely. I think back to when I kept my tire pressure at 100 psi and the super firm ride that must’ve been. I added the short loop to Spanish Cove Drive to lengthen the ride a little compared to Tuesday’s ride coming in at 35.16 miles today. I finished at 1:35 PM.

The weather continued to be warm for November but that will come to an end by Saturday. Zwift released some new routes just time for chilly weather arriving in SE Texas. I didn’t wear arm sleeves for a change because the temperature was in the 70’s and to add some tan. Weather for the bike ride: start 78 (humidity 70%, dew point 67), partly cloudy, wind SE 9 mph; finish 79 (humidity 64%, dew point 66), mostly cloudy, wind SE 6 mph. Wind wasn’t much a problem for the ride.

Workers were pouring concrete on FM 1960 at Atascocita Shores Drive. My days riding between the barriers might be ending soon.

What’s in store for East Dallas’ Santa Fe Trail: ‘Boneyard’ park, pocket plaza and more

By Sharon Grigsby | www.dallasnews.com

The Santa Fe Trail is true to the Old East Dallas neighborhoods through which it runs — an unassuming workhorse of concrete with few amenities but frequented by the grand diversity of age, race and background that makes this the best part of our city.

Yes, I’m biased. This is where I live and where most days I run. But it’s no exaggeration that the Santa Fe Trail — which at one end connects into White Rock Lake and at the other into Fair Park, Deep Ellum and downtown — is unique.

The 4.5-mile trail serves as a vital corridor for job commuters who rely on bikes or their own two feet. It also is the connective tissue joining …

Racing Towards November Goal

Texbiker.net Posted on November 9, 2022 by Rick AnkrumNovember 9, 2022

In a race to get more miles towards my 360 mile November goal I rode north to FM 1485 and back south to Kingwood. Friday or Saturday weather below my outside riding threshold is predicted to arrive. Then I will shift to indoors riding Zwift which doesn’t count towards my goal. I started at 10:21 AM and was back home at 1:10 PM after biking 31.9 miles, upping my November total road miles to 66. This was the eleventh time I rode the Kingwood – FM 1485 – Kingwood route in 2022. Today I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike and the distance was a little below the average for other 10 rides.

Weather conditions: start 78 (humidity 76%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind E 6 mph; finish 82 (humidity 64%, dew point 69), mostly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph.

My legs are still recovering from the 7 days off the bike due to sickness. The 10 mph wind on the way back to Kingwood challenge them some and a few times my speed dropped to around 12 mph until I recovered after a few minutes.

My four rides in the last 90 days brought me the Strava Local Legend on Rock Creek Southbound. Now that the dogs seem to be gone I will probably ride this segment more often.
