About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Worlds Collide: A Midnight Rider Visits A Dude Abikes

A Dude Abikes | adudeabikes.com

OK, the truth is he didn’t come to Austin, Texas just to visit me, he came to see his son. But since he asked, I couldn’t get out of town in time, I couldn’t weasel out of it. Just kidding. A Midnight Rider hails from Southeastern Massachusetts, and from the moment he exclaimed “Dude!” I was taken back to my college days in Vermont. That New England accent ain’t heard too much around these parts, but it was welcome to my ears. If you’re not familiar with it, the letter “r” in certain words is a lot softer. So “Park the car in the yard” sounds like “Pahk the cah in the yahd.” Anyway, here’s a little recap of our get together. …

Owner of Gazelle bikes buys Cannondale, Schwinn for $810 million

finance.yahoo.com

AMSTERDAM, Oct 11 (Reuters) – The Dutch owner of bike brands including Gazelle, Santa Cruz and Urban Arrow said on Monday it has agreed to buy brands including Cannondale, Schwinn and Mongoose from owner Dorel Industries Inc. for $810 million, creating one of the largest bike makers globally with $2.5 billion in estimated annual sales.

Pon Holdings, which bid unsuccessfully to buy the Sparta and Batavus brands for $900 million in 2017, said the Dorel acquisition would give it a strong foothold in U.S. markets, where it expects to sell e-bikes as well as road, city and mountain bikes.

"Together we can further cater to the ever …

We value hospitality skills first, and we’d rather hire someone who’s eager to learn than someone who thinks they know it all. If you’re already a bike expert, that’s awesome. If not, we’ll train you. The key is that you know how to treat customers, evaluate their needs, and exceed their expectations. …

Day 21: Sanderson to Comstock, 2720’ of climbing, 7 hours in the saddle: No country for old men or cyclists

Saturday October 9, 2021, 81 miles (130 km) – Total so far: 1,077 miles (1,733 km) I’ll just start off by saying today pretty much sucked. I don’t know when I’ve had a tougher day on a bike. But I digress. So started off early with great weather like always, and then the wind kicks up, but pretty mild till late morning. …

Day 22: Comstock to Del Rio: 1138’ of climbing, 4 hrs in the saddle. On the border with more wind

Sunday October 10, 2021, 41 miles (66 km) – Total so far: 1,118 miles (1,799 km) The wind persisted all night. I figured it would calm down in the morning like usual, but not today. Left camp into the wind and it only got worse, up to around 15mph. The climbing wasn’t too bad but the constant wind really sucked. Fortunately it wasn’t a long day. …

Season Finale! Our season finale is on Friday Night! We’ll have free Karbach Brewing, some soft drinks and Taco’s a Go Go will be on site selling food! Race registration is open.

Live Results & Schedule Link Actual Schedule will depend on participation

Rider of the Year Awards Rider of the year awards for the top 3 riders in each category will be presented during the evening. Final standings are available here.

Madison Races Madison Flying Lap – Rider one will complete a 2 lap wind up exchanging with rider 2 between the pursuit line on the back straight and start/finish line on the bell lap. Rider 2 will then be timed for 1 lap starting and finishing at the start/finish line.

Madison Points Race – This works the same as a regular points race however teams will operate in pairs with one rider active and one on relief. They will exchange through handslings or pushing. The active rider will designate the teams race position and be able to score points.

Team Races These are designed to provide a fun alternative to those who don’t want to do the Madison. Riders will ride the race individually but be scored as a team. As such teams are required to not contain more than 1 rider who has won an elite race this year.

Team Scratch – Teams of 2 (3 if required) race together and are scored on the 2nd rider to cross the line.

Team Points – Both riders race and points are combined at the end to determine the winners. If a team of 3 races the total 2/3 of the total points of the 3 will be used.

Junior U12’s If we can get 3 or more younger juniors out they will run a race scheduled of 4 Lap Scratch Race, 500m Chariot and 6 Lap Point a Lap in the regular omnium format.

Rain Brought A Pleasant Weather Change

Texbiker.net Posted on October 11, 2021 by Rick AnkrumOctober 11, 2021

A pleasant change in the weather after rain during the night awaited the start of today’s bike ride. With the temperature staying around 71 degrees I decided to not rush to start. I got ready and rolled away to begin the bike ride at 10:25 AM. I chose the ” New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route going north into a 10 mph headwind. But it didn’t seem very strong compared to yesterday’s 23 mph gusts. I varied a few streets on the route and ended up riding 35.55 miles, about what I guessed in the video. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike today. 14 times I biked this route so far in 2021, eight of those on my Canyon Endurace bike.

10-11-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today’s Route

With the complimentary weather and light tailwind I hit 14.3 mph as the overall average speed on the way back to Kingwood. Depending on which direction you looked the sky was blue or dappled with clouds. Weather summary: start 74 (70% humidity, 64 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 10 mph; finish 79 (59% humidity, 63 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. When I finished at 1:03 PM I was surprised the temperature had not made it to 80 degrees.

E. Knox Drive between Loop 494 and the US59 frontage road has numerous potholes and cracks. Maybe someday Montgomery County will resurface it. The rest of the roads are in decent condition.

Where Did The Wind Come From? I Liked The Other Option

Texbiker.net Posted on October 10, 2021 by Rick AnkrumOctober 10, 2021

The light winds left and so did the blue sky. I rode around Kingwood Streets for today’s bike ride starting at 1:39 PM and finishing at 3:27 PM. At times fighting the wind affirmed my choice of staying close. I rode 21.66 miles making it a 230.93 mile week. Its good to hit 220+ miles after falling short last week.

10-10-2021 Week Bike Rides Summary
10-10-2021 Week Bike Rides Summary

For the year this is the 12th time biking on Kingwood streets, about once a month. My Lynskey R300 bike carried me.

10-10-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Kingwood Streets

A front may approach Houston this evening but before that the clouds moved in from the gulf and the wind with them. Weather summary: start 85 (78% humidity, 78 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 16 mph gusts 22mph; finish 85 (78% humidity, 77 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 16 mph gusts 23 mph. After a week of light wind I forgot what it was like to ride in 23 mph gusts.

Kingwood Town Center was blocked off for a car show and other festivities. Watch the video to see a slipper car.

With the Lazer helmet working its way through the warranty process I reverted to the Catlike helmet.
