About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

My First Bike Ride Of 2021 Went Well After Fixing A Slime Issue

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

Today, on this first Friday of the 2021 version of February, for the first time this new year, I rolled my bike’s wheels.

I don’t know why I’ve had such a long drought bike riding-wise. I suppose cold weather lessens the appeal.

It had been such a long time since I’ve paid any attention to my bike I did not realize til this morning that the tires were in need of some fresh air being pumped into the tubes.

That turned quickly problematic when I could not …

Perfect Day to Ride Tour de Zwift Stage 7 In The Jungle

Texbiker.net Posted on February 5, 2021 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 5, 2021

A perfect day to ride the Tour de Zwift Stage 7 Group Ride. Outside the temperature dropped from 53 to 45 and light rain fell. In Zwift the Watopia Jungle Circuit was hot and dusty. Starting at 12:02 PM the course was 13.3 miles long and 574 feet of climbing according to the description. I actually rode 13.46 miles and climbed 571 feet, but who’s nitpicking the details. The meanest climb was the swayback suspension bridge which we rode up twice just to make a point.

I rode my Cannondale Evo road bike but many rode mountain bikes. I almost switched to the MTB until I looked at the weight and aero stars. The Cannondale Evo was better in each category. Maybe I will spend some “Drops” on a better MTB?

From Zwiftinsider.com the course description, “Watopia’s “Jungle Circuit” was added with the Mayan jungle expansion in late October 2017. This is a lollipop route, meaning you start with a lead-in then remain on the circuit portion until your legs fall off.” Today we took two laps after the lead-in which I didn’t know about until reading the Zwiftinsider. com description. I thought the two laps were 6.65 miles each.

Looking at the group ride results at Zwiftpower.com 316 cyclists show up with me at 301. During the ride I saw the nearby Zwifters count around 643 to 654. Not everyone has a Zwiftpower profile.

Some of the customers who come inside Pedego are looking for a bike that will keep up with their grandkids, Amanda Parsons says.

Parsons and husband Jason Miller opened a franchise of the California-based electric bike company in the Heights last week.

The couple opened their first Pedego franchise in Katy in 2019.

Houston’s hot climate makes it ideal for the electric bikes, Parsons says, because they can be propelled like a regular bicycle or turned to …

Even More Wind To Fight Biking to Ramsey Road and Back to Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on February 4, 2021 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 4, 2021

The wind didn’t go away overnight. Today’s bike ride involved even stronger wind than yesterday but the route went in a different direction. The bike ride started at 11:20 AM as I rode my Canyon Endurace bike onto the street. I chose a longer route than yesterday to take advantage of the warmer temperature. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for temperatures below my biking threshold so I need to take advantage of each opportunity. Today’s route is a variation of another route, “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman”. Due to the road construction on FM 2100 I altered the route to “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Kingwood”. The distance is about the same coming in at 37.04 miles compared to an average of 36 miles on the other route. This is the first time biking to Ramsey Road since October 10th, 2020. Not sure why I didn’t go there during that time.

Because the weather warmed up I wore a new Voler long sleeve jersey under a windbreaker jacket. No need for a thermal one today. I like this jersey because the sleeve length is just right. The color is good too.

  • 2-4-2021 New Voler Long Sleeve Jersey Front
  • 2-4-2021 New Voler Long Sleeve Jersey Back

That wind I mentioned and other conditions for the bike ride: start 73 (66% humidity, 61.3 dew point), overcast, wind SW 13 mph gusts 26 mph; finish 77 (60% humidity, 61.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SW 15 mph gusts 21 mph. Getting to Ramsey Road generally was with a tailwind but the ride back to Kingwood was into a stiff headwind on Old Atascocita Road and FM 1960 going west. Exposed to the strong wind biking over Lake Houston at times I barely went faster then 9 or 10 mph. Thankfully turning right onto Atascocita Shores Drive got me out of the headwind. I thought about stopping for a short rest to let my legs regroup but waited until I was on Kings River Drive at a stop sign. Earlier when I was at the bridge on Ramsey Road I stopped for several minutes to prepare for the headwind. While stopped I took these photos.

  • 2-4-2021 Bike Ride Ramsey Road Bridge-1
  • 2-4-2021 Bike Ride Ramsey Road Bridge-2

You can see the mostly cloudy sky but not the wind moving the tree limbs.

Relive.cc shows the route in action.

Golden Cheetah bike ride summary data.

  • 2-4-2021 Golden Cheetah Bike Ride Summary-1
  • 2-4-2021 Golden Cheetah Bike Ride Summary-2

Strava categorized the bike ride as harder than my usual efforts. I agree because of the wind. The route profile is pretty flat.
