About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Metz & Boyer: The Border Run

By Mark Metz and Ray Boyer | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 31: Kountze, TX to Vinton, LA
Saturday November 10, 2018, 63 miles (101 km) – Total so far: 1,804 miles (2,903 km)
Mark here: We rode out of Texas today. Two weeks, almost to the hour. The celebration was muted as it was 48 degrees and raining lightly. We crossed this massive state at its widest point in 14 days, including a layover day in Austin. Seems hard to believe.
The populations of different areas of the country fascinate me as they tell stories of migration patters that go way back. Texas is so big it has different things going on in different regions. A few observations about the Lone Star State

West Texas
People: Friendly, somewhat reserved. Lots of poverty. Ranchers are a …

Metz & Boyer: The Border Run

By Mark Metz and Ray Boyer | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 30: Coldspring to Kountze, TX
Friday November 9, 2018, 62 miles (100 km) – Total so far: 1,741 miles (2,802 km)
Mark here: Here is a phenomenon that I cannot explain. I’m riding along on a quiet road. The number of passing cars probably does not average one per minute in each direction. How can I explain he remarkable frequency of cars travelling in opposite directions passing one another directly adjacent me on my bike, or within 100 feet of me? It seems statistically improbable, if not impossible, yet there it is. Happens all the time. Is there some law of physics with which I am unfamiliar? Are the gods of bicycle touring toying with me?
The sound of rain encouraged us to sleep in and we …

Bicycles Plus aims to meet cyclists’ needs in Flower Mound

By Payton Potter | communityimpact.com

Bicycles Plus has served both avid and novice cyclists in North Texas for more than 15 years.

Store manager Frank Tucker said the store’s longevity can be distilled down to making changes to meet demand. Successful stores today, he said, often partner with major brands, much like Bicycles Plus has done with Trek.

While Bicycles Plus peddles mostly Trek brand bikes, the retailer also offers a number of other notable bike brands, including Pinarello, Colnago and …
