About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Mountain Biking in the Rain

texasmtb.org

Throwback to 2015 at Bluff Creek Ranch when the skies opened up and the rain came down over night. Hard.

Fortunately, the soil at Bluff Creek Ranch stays pretty rideable while wet. The roots get slippery and it gets sloppy, but it doesn’t seem to turn into peanut butter the way other Texas trails can.

For the most part, mountain bikers don’t shy away from racing in the rain. We avoid riding wet trails to help preserve them and not create ruts/erosion, but on race weekends there sometimes ins’t much of a choice. …

Two Strava Local Legends Riding New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst

Texbiker.net Posted on January 29, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 29, 2024

I planned on riding my Cervelo Caledonia on today’s bike ride but as I was about to lift it off the rack I squeezed the rear tire, it was flat. So I switched to the Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. Nice to have options when something like this happens.

When I woke up this morning I wasn’t sure today would be an outside bike ride because of the 36 degree temperature. the warmed things up rather quickly and by 11:30 I started getting ready to ride. I went over route options in my head and settled on riding north but not which specific route. I left it with two options: ride to Caney Creek and back or to Roman Forest Blvd. and back. I made the decision after starting at 12:13 PM as I warmed up riding: New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst. This would the first ride this far north in 2024 which isn’t saying too much since this only my fourth road ride this year. The sun and light wind helped. I dressed for 63 degrees: shorts, leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, and a wind jacket. I was comfortable once I warmed up and from the sun. I rode 34.82 miles and finished at 2:53 PM. There aren’t enough days left in January to reach my 334 road mile goal but today got me a little closer. The next two days should be road rides and narrow the shortfall.

I reclaimed one Strava Local Legend on KPHS Sprint by riding it twice today. The other Local Legend on VR’s Step UP! I didn’t plan on.

Weather: Start 65 degrees, humidity 43%, dew point 41.5, mostly clear, wind W 3 mph; Finish 68 degrees, humidity 38%, dew point 41.1, mostly clear, wind W 5 mph.

Howdy from Amarillo Texas

Hey yall! My girls and myself clean up and lube bikes in our back yard and give them to people that need them. Every once in a while, when the bone pile adds up, we’ll do a “trashcan” build. Heres my favorite little cruiser. This sarted life as a Huffy USA Built Western Flyer Quasar 15 speed Mountian bike. We drug it out of a trash pile in a back yard. The tires, cables, and brake pads where roached, no life left in the bearings, rims where rusted through, so we did this! Now shes …

Southern Tier El Paso to New Orleans

By Cortney O. | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 17:Hondo to San Antonio: Busy roads, a little bit of France in Texas, and arriving in Alamo city Sunday January 28, 2024, 42 miles (68 km) – Total so far: 615 miles (990 km) We knew today would be hard. Navigating into an unknown big city on bicycles is always a little stressful.

We left Hondo and made our way over more hills to Castroville. The highway is still a four lane divided highway but the traffic has really picked up. The shoulder is wide but littered with debris. My tire was still giving me trouble but we just …

Sprinting And Climbing Zwift France R.G.V.

Texbiker.net Posted on January 28, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 28, 2024

Visiting France on today’s Zwift ride. The last time I rode the R.G.V. route was December 23rd, 2022. That time was in an event. Today is just me and whoever is riding there. A high-speed sprinter’s course (not sure I’ll be sprinting that much) that traverses the flatter roads of the French countryside. There are 3 sprints over the 15.5 miles plus the Aqueduc KOM about halfway through the ride. The KOM averages 5%. Overall there is 437 feet of climbing. The route description was a little misleading for the France R.G.V route. I expected most of the climbing on the Aqueduc KOM but the climbing up to that point didn’t come near half of the 437 feet total for the ride. There were a number of smaller climbs after that to make up the difference waiting for my legs to tackle. Strava recognized one PR 2nd fastest time on Les Intestins – Inbound (6:37) while Zwift recorded four in the last 90 days: Marina Sprint Reverse, Pave Sprint Reverse, Aqueduc KOM Reverse, and Marina Sprint Reverse.
