About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

After a few weeks of early season racing to check the form, it’s back to a solid training progression to get in race shape for the spring. I’m pretty surprised of where I’m at given just a few high volume weeks with mainly low intensity. Time to ramp up both this time

Stage 5 Tour de Zwift Innsbruckring Followed By Badge Ride Watopia’s Temple Trek

Texbiker.net Posted on January 23, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 23, 2024

Stage 5 Tour de Zwift Innsbruck Innsbruckring

2 laps totaling 11.1 miles, 508 feet elevation gain. Group C rides a shorter route than Group B (14.9 miles) and much less climbing (1626 feet elevation gain). The Innsbruckring is lumpy and goes up the same climb twice. The climb goes up 111 feet in .84 of a mile. The only time I previously rode this route was October 18th, 2022. I thought the climb on each lap would be harder than it turned out. Once I was on the climb the gradient jumped to 8% and stayed there for awhile. Once I was over the top the downhill was fast. After the ride my legs had enough power left I went for the route badge on the Watopia Temple Trek route. See more on that below.

Badge Hunting Watopia Temple Trek

No livestream for this ride. Temple Trek is a 6.5 mile long route with 128 feet of elevation gain. Normally I would ride 2 or more laps because of the shorter distance but adding it to stage 5 fit nicely. The route begins with a 3.38 mile downhill to the flat road. The remainder of the ride is flat with one rolling ride to get the elevation gain. I garnered these Strava results: 2nd fastest time on Jungle CCW Descent (4:43) and 2nd fastest time on Temple Trek (13:44). The route uses a portion of the southern coast with two sprints.

Zwift Watopia Going Coastal Out & Back

Texbiker.net Posted on January 22, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 22, 2024

Sun drenched desert to cool rainy forest for 10.2 miles and 208 feet elevation gain. Reverse at that point back to the start totaling 21 plus miles and 465 feet elevation gain. I did this once before on November 2nd, 2023. Outside it’s raining and 55 degrees. Four sprints (two each way) but no big climbs, just rolling hills at times. This may be the simplest Watopia “Rebel Route”. Strava PR on Going Coastal (31:59) and 2nd fastest time on Woodland Sprint (43s).
