About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Countryside to City: Flatter Ride with Challenging Climb: Makuri Islands Wandering Flats

Texbiker.net Posted on January 19, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 19, 2024

This long flatter (my kind of ride) route takes me from the scenic countryside to the bustling city. 15.6 miles and 478 feet elevation gain. Last time I rode this was November 29th, 2023. Begin with a downhill followed by 9.8 miles of slightly bumpy roads. The climb starts at 11.6 miles and lasts 2.32 miles gaining 245 feet elevation. The ride finishes on a slow downhill. The November 29th ride was 22.13 miles as a meetup. The previous three rides averaged 16.3 miles. I set a new Strava PR on Wandering Flats (52:53).

Climbing The Mayan Jungle and Epic KOM. Zwift Watopia The Big Ring

Texbiker.net Posted on January 18, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 18, 2024

Fourth ride on The Big Ring. The first 17.5 miles are flat with some rolling hills. At that point a big climb in Mayan Jungle and Epic KOM lasting 2.84 miles and gaining 314 feet out of the total 883 feet of elevation gain for the route. My last ride December 16th took 1:53:21. Five sprints, four before the climb and one after. From ZwiftInsider.com, “Route Description Begin in Fuego Flats and travel clockwise, riding through the flat, fast desert before turning onto the new coastal road at the LAX roundabout in Saddle Springs.” “The Big Ring” is a big ring that lets you stay in the big ring. It’s the longest flat route in Watopia! Strava top results today: 2nd fastest time on The Big Ring (1:52:59), 2nd fastest time on Going Coastal (32:58), and 3rd fastest time on Jungle CCW Climb (12:28).

Video: Legacy Trails 2-mile expansion connecting north, south Tyler underway

By Kristine Guevara | www.kltv.com

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Construction is underway adding almost two miles to Legacy Trails. In July 2019, the four and a half mile trail opened, going from Three Lakes Parkway to Gresham. But now, Tyler is working on a new goal, to connect citizens from the south to the northside of the city.

“This is opportunities to provide quality of life for citizens of Tyler, giving them places to get outside, to hike, to bike, to different parts of the city and ultimately longer distances within the city,” said Project Manager Cameron Williams.

Phase two starts at Peete Elementary in north Tyler, goes through W.E. Winters Park, and ends at the future Stewart Park site along Frankston Highway. Williams said they plan to build a trailhead with a parking area.

The Parks Department will then …

Day 5: Valentine to Marfa: So cold, so slow

Tuesday January 16, 2024, 36 miles (58 km) – Total so far: 203 miles (327 km) We woke up in the Kay Johnson Library and temperature was 18 outside. We took our sweet time leaving. At 11, it was finally above freezing, so we decided we better head out.

It was a rough one. We were both freezing, the wind in our faces. It was a relatively flat route but our bikes felt like they were riding through molasses. It didn’t help that the road in this section is straight, empty, and lacking scenery.

Luckily after 20 miles, we were able to …

Day 6:Marfa to Alpine: Famous burritos, amazing rides, and charming Alpine

Wednesday January 17, 2024, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 243 miles (391 km) Today was a great day.

Because we were doing a shorter day today we had time to explore Marfa before leaving towards Alpine.

We started at Marfa Burrito,a local institution. Well worth the stop and fun to see photos of Anthony Bourdain, Kevin Bacon, and more celebrities that have enjoyed those same burritos. Bring cash!

We then took a leisurely ride around town to see the …
