About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

In the Face of Change, Third Ward Is Holding onto Its Rich History

By Brooke Lewis | www.houstoniamag.com

The Houston neighborhood is experiencing a revival that, despite challenges, has held onto its roots.

Veon McReynolds, seen here whizzing around Third Ward on his bike, has shared his passion for cycling with Tour de Hood.

On a steamy September evening, Veon McReynolds hops on his bike and pedals out of the Tour de Hood compound in Third Ward, leading a group of riders behind him. His bike’s multicolored lights shine brighter as the sun sinks into the sky.

“You can ride, too!” he shouts, inviting a woman getting out of her car and walking toward a restaurant. She shakes her head, laughs, and smiles over at McReynolds. He keeps pedaling faster down Almeda Road.

McReynolds founded Tour de Hood, an organization that leads weekly bike rides through Third Ward and other parts of Houston, in 2003. Besides being an avid …

KINGWOOD, Texas (KTRK) – A student riding a bike was struck by a driver in a crash outside of Humble ISD’s Kingwood High School on Monday morning, officials said.

Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office responded to the crash in the 2700 block of Kingwood Drive.

In a post on social media, Constable Mark Herman said a Kingwood High school student was hit by a driver.

Officials said the student wasn’t knocked off of their bike. The driver called 911, the student was checked out by EMS, determined to be uninjured, and cleared to go to school, deputies said.

Zwift Makuri Islands Country To Coastal

Texbiker.net Posted on November 13, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 13, 2023

Started the week riding Zwift. Outside light rain and 60 degrees were not to my liking. Last week I rode in Watopia and today I moved to the Makuri Islands. I wanted to ride about 20 miles and the Country to Coast route fit the bill, 20.8 miles and 919 feet of climbing. Throw in 4 sprints for a little variety and we have a ride. Some gravel and dirt along the way. I didn’t change from the S-Works Tarmac road bike and road wheels. The video shows all of the turns plus some of the sprints. Not long after the start climbing began and at the end the finish was uphill. Strava top results: 2nd fastest time on Country to Coastal (1:20:13) and 3rd fastest time on Connector Canyon Climb (13:49). No Zwift PR’s.

My only previous ride on this route was November 18th, 2022. That ride was a little faster.

We crossed Westheimer Road and headed into the old West Oaks Mall parking lot to regroup. Look at allllllll that wasted land on parking spaces. What could go there instead? Housing? Greenspace? A velodrome or a pump track?!!! pic.twitter.com/g6N7jsWkQt

Had a fairly chilly ride beginning at Joshua Springs Park this morning. Thankfully, I warmed up quickly as we faced a strong headwind all the way out to Sisterdale. Everyone in this group is not only very strong, but also very friendly, and that’s what makes riding with them so much fun. As always, I am most thankful to my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both physically and spiritually, thereby enabling me to return to this sport that I love, and I thank Him for another safe ride without any mechanicals or flats.?
