About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Just Missed 200 Mile Week. San Jacinto Bayou Greenway On Sunday

Texbiker.net Posted on November 5, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 5, 2023

Day Light Saving time ended early this morning. I didn’t really think about too much until the end of the bike ride when I noticed the sun was lower than I expected. Last Sunday I rode on the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway and I repeated that again today but on a different route, Kingwood – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway – Oakhurst. I continue to enjoy the easier pedaling on my Lynskey Helix since I cleaned the chain and waxed it. The crank turns so much easier. The began at 1:42 PM after I got home from church and got ready and finished at 3:40 PM. I rode 25.94 miles. I should’ve .35 miles farther and it would’ve been a 200 mile week combing Zwift and road rides. I’m ahead of the pace to reach my 360 mile goal for November at 27% of the way there, 97.9 miles.

Weather for the ride: Start 79 degrees, humidity 62%, dew point 64.5, mostly cloudy, wind S 6 mph; Finish 79 degrees, humidity 61%, dew point 64.2, mostly cloudy, wind S 6 mph. No additional clothing required, just my normal summer kit: shorts, short sleeve jersey, and arm sleeves.

Top results from Strava: PR on Northshore Sunrise (3:45) and 3rd fastest time on Super Secret 4×4 Shortcut (1:04).

DFW XC race at Northshore trail (loop 5)

Average Texas MTBer | www.youtube.com

Holeshot… check, lead into the first turn… check, everything else… not a check. It was a huge turnout for the race with the mens intermediate class being the largest. 45 entries as of on race day. Far from a perfect race but a day on a bike is better than one at work!

Bike riding has been apparently popular in Midland.

Just Alike But Different; Today’s Ride and Yesterday’s

Texbiker.net Posted on November 4, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 4, 2023

Today’s route map map looks like yesterday’s. I reversed many of the roads today. The distance was almost identical too. I waited for the temperature to hit 68 before getting ready to minimize the clothes because the forecast called for 80 degrees or more. I rolled out on my Cervelo Caledonia at 10:44 AM hoping I wasn’t too late to see other cyclists. The ride went south and east to Spanish Cove Drive where I made the u-turn to head back to Kingwood. I call this the Atascocita – Spanish Cove – Walden route and this was the 7th ride in 2023. I saw 4 cyclists, 2 in the Kingwood Park and Ride, 1 on W. Lake Houston Parkway at Kings River Drive, and the last one on Atascocita Shores Drive. the only one I caught with the GoPro was the last cyclist.

City staff updating Dallas Bike Plan, asking for 536 miles of bike lanes

By Cecilia Lenzen | communityimpact.com

City officials are in the process of updating the Dallas Bike Plan, a master plan meant to shape how city staff design and implement a citywide cycling network of trails, bike lanes and other infrastructure.

What happened

Dallas Transportation Director Gus Khankarli briefed City Council members on an update to the plan’s progress during their Nov. 1 meeting. Originally created in 1985 and updated in 2011, the Dallas Bike Plan needs a refreshed update to account for zoning and land use changes in the last 12 years, Khankarli said.

City planners have four main objectives in updating the plan, according to City Council documents: …

So dangerous for cyclists. The city needs a plan for shutting down bikeways. It’s not safe to close a lane without providing an alternate route. https://t.co/rKX49Y4aAy
