About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Green crusader biking to Texas
www.manitoulin.ca

HONORA BAY—Honora Bay’s Justin Tilson is known as a champion of green causes (his run in the 2011 provincial election for the Green Party in Ontario made this well known) and next month he plans to create awareness regarding climate change and what ordinary folk can do to make a difference by cycling from Manitoulin to Texas.
The trip is over 3,000 kilometres, but Mr. Tilson hopes to see it accomplished in seven to 10 days. “I want to prove that this is doable,” he said. That means putting in at least 300 kilometres and six or seven hours of pedaling a…

Bikes Belong rebrands
by Lynette Carpiet        www.bicycleretailer.com
National nonprofit boosts local and state support.
LAS VEGAS, NV (BRAIN) — Bikes Belong is rebranding as PeopleForBikes to bring clarity and simplicity to the organization. The Bikes Belong Coalition and Bikes Belong Foundation will be renamed the PeopleForBikes Coalition and the PeopleForBikes Foundation. Starting Wednesday, the opening day of Interbike, the Bikes Belong brand will no longer be used.
A new PeopleForBikes website, launched concurrently, will take the place of the organization’s three existing sites.
PeopleForBikes was a campaign of the Bikes Belong Foundation that started in 2010 to get one million pledges in support of bicycling.
The name change and restructuring will streamline the organization to a single brand and connect its industry-backed programs to…

Griggs and City Staff Explain 5th St Bicycle Sharrows
Bike Friendly Oak Cliff
Please see FAQs prepared by Staff regarding shared bike arrow markings or “sharrows” in Kidd Springs.
Please let me know if you have any questions.  The FAQs below were prepared by City Staff.  We are also in the process of preparing additional maps showing bike facility development in North Oak Cliff.
Thank you for your continued support for more bike facilities in our community.
1)      Why was 5th St selected for an east-west route in this area?
The 2011 Dallas Bike Plan identified multiple bicycle routes in the Kidd Springs Park area, specifically on Bishop and Zang.  The Bishop Ave. bike lane is already complete from Colorado to just north of Davis.  The proposed bike route on…

TTC Funds Transportation Enhancements Projects

===========================================

It was Sunday night on May 5, 2013 that my life changed for ever.

I left Walgreen’s on South First and Stassney at 8:40 PM and headed towards Bramble Road to a friend’s house. At 8:45 on South First and Bramble I was struck, head-on, by a white truck being driven without any insurance. The impact broke my legs and sent me flying over the truck. I landed in the truck bed with two broken femurs, broken left tibia and fibula, cut-up nose, cracked tooth, sprained neck and…

iBike Newton Revistied
by Ray Garza        RGVcycling.com

It has been several months since I started using the Newton from Velocomp and it has become an essential tool for me. I thought it’s time to revisit my decision to buy the Newton.

First of all, I just love the unit! I ride everywhere with it even on social rides. It does almost everything that I would want on a bike computer; easy to ready screen, power, temperature, wind speed, hill grade, heart-rate, speed and cadence. The only thing it does not do is GPS, Bluetooth or WiFi. You cannot directly export your…

FLYBARRE MAKES TEXAS DEBUT IN PLANO
By Jessica Melton        yourplano.dallasnews.com
PLANO, TEXAS (Sept. 2013) – Flywheel Sports, the innovative indoor cycling brand, continues to revolutionize the fitness industry in Texas with the introduction of its total body sculpting program, FlyBarre. The FlyBarre program blends the best of light weight training, dance and core strengthening exercises. Using small intense interval exercises choreographed to contemporary and inspiring music, FlyBarre quickly reshapes the body for lean, strong, and elongated muscles.

Flywheel first arrived in Texas in 2012 with the opening of a Highland Park location and expanded in January 2013 with a second Dallas-area location in Plano. The growth continues with the addition of FlyBarre at Plano, and the phenomenon is expected to continue as Co-Founder and Creative Director Ruth Zukerman spreads her…

Huntsville State Park Race Report – 2013
www.turnincranks.com
It has been nearly 4 months since my last TMBRA race. I was unable to make Camp Eagle over Labor Day weekend so this would be my first test to see if I had made any improvements over the summer.

I’ve been riding regularly for about the last 5 weeks and have seen some pretty significant gains in some of my times on my fun and training rides. I was looking forward to seeing how those might translate into the race setting.

Huntsville State Park is, as you may guess, just outside of Huntsville, Texas. It’s a fun course through the tall pines around a small lake. The trail itself is very sandy and…
