About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for September 10th

Texbiker.net Posted on September 10, 2013 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 10, 2013

National (Don’t) Bike to School Day
by Kristin Butcher        www.peopleforbikes.org

In elementary school, my weekdays were bookended by a half-mile ride down a curvy suburban sidewalk. By high school, my commute was 10 miles down a winding shoulderless road that was actually named Racetrack Road.

That’s when I stopped riding my bike to school.

The statistics show I was actually more fortunate than today’s kids, many who will go their entire lives without riding or walking to school. The number of kids riding or walking to school today has plummeted to…

Warda Mountain Bike Race – 2013 TMBRA – MOBILE FRIENDLY
www.turnincranks.com
2013 The Warda Race at Bluff Creek Ranch
May 18, 2013
Men’s Cat 3 40-49
This is the 10th race in the TMBRA State Series

Shot 100% on GoPro Hero2 HD

Bluff Creek Ranch is a staple of the Texas Mountain Biking Racing Association state series. This course has a lot of wide open and is what I would call a hammerfest. You’re on, pedaling hard almost the entire race. Not only that, but there are lots of flat, open, and straight sections around meadows and fields.

Because of the above, the course is very roadie friendly. And several…

Mountain Biking Huntsville State Park – 2013 TMBRA pre-ride

I Bike Richardson – Scott Braden
bikefriendlyrichardson.org
It’s time for another installment of the I Bike Richardson series, where we put a face on Richardson cyclists. We’d like to introduce Scott Braden. He took the time to answer a few questions about biking. Enjoy:

Name:
Scott Braden

How long have you been riding?
Since I was a kid… age 5… living on Downing Drive in Richardson. Got into road racing in my teens, never really stopped. I’m 47 now so that’s 40+ years riding in and around Richardson.

How often do you ride? …

DORBA RCP Race Results & Photos
by Shawn McAfee        www.texasmountainbiketrails.com

The second race of the 2013 DORBA Fall series was an incredible production from our DORBA volunteer and Big Pig Racing groups. They did an incredible job with setup, management and creating a great racing experience despite the 100 degree heat.

For me personally, I was reminded that disappointment is as much a part of racing as training. A burped tire with 1 mile to go in the Cat 2 race moved me from a likely 3rd place finish to a 7th place finish. Oh well, it was still a fun race and…

Plano cyclists describe hair-raising symptoms while riding under powerlines
by STEVE STOLER        WFAA

PLANO, Texas — Imagine riding your bicycle on a popular North Texas hike and bike trail, when you suddenly feel the hair standing up on the back of your neck and twinges through your arms and legs.
That’s exactly what’s happening on the Bluebonnet Trail in Plano, between Ohio Drive and Coit Road. While Oncor officials say it’s perfectly safe, cyclists are worried.
“As you can see, the bike path actually meanders through the…
