About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Monty speaks the truth! Half of the event profits from this race go to FWMBA. That money goes towards building and maintaining singletrack and a whole host of other FWMBA expenses. If you love FWMBA trails show it by attending these dates! …

Looking for wide bike trails
by terrabike        www.bikeforums.net
I am one of those dorks on a tadpole type recumbent trikes but I love this trike I can ride for hours instead of only like 30 or 45 minuets. I am looking for good places to ride in the San Antonio/Hill country area but I need kind of a wide trail I am about 36 inches wide. I have spent lots of time on the greenway trails in San Antonio but I’m looking for more places to ride. Has anyone spent any time at the South Llano state park?

Hello From Texas
by gravelgrinder        www.bikeforums.net
Live in Fort Worth. I have been riding for over 25 years. Used to race road bikes back in the day. Got into Mountain biking and have done that pretty much for the last 10 years. About 2 years ago I got into cross and discovered gravel grinders. I have been doing a lot of that type of stuff for the last 2 years or so…which ironically has got me back to riding my road bike more lately..still get out and hit the trails on occasion but not near like I did..was hitting them about 5 days a week and…

Let’s Ride Sweet 16 – Mountain Biking Barton Creek Greenbelt

Riding the Sweet 16 trail segment. Another of my favorite segments at Barton Creek Greenbelt. I like to use this segment as a good measure of fitness combined with technical ability. This is a mostly uphill segment that will give you a good indicator of how you’re doing overall.

It is possible to ride/clear this entire segment although I have…

Closing In – July 28th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 28, 2013 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 6, 2017

I planned on riding to the south but not quite as far as normal. When I looked at the weather radar there were some rain clouds in that direction to the south of Atascocita. Then I thought about riding to the north but that is the direction I wanted to go tomorrow. So I gambled and rode south. I did not encounter any rain but in Walden some streets were damp, probably from rain 30 minutes before I got there. It was 86 degrees (68% humidity) when I started at 11:34 and 91 degrees (57% humidity) at 1:03 when I got back home.

My goal is reach to 900 miles for July. With 4 possible riding days left and only 100 miles to go I thought biking a shorter distance would setup the other days with 30 miles a day to get to 900. Today’s route ended up at 22.41 miles at 15.4 mph average speed. July miles total 821.58 and this week I biked 226.15 miles. I biked 4147 miles year to date. This means I only need to ride 79 miles to reach my goal.

Good biking weather tomorrow: 93 degrees and partly cloudy.

Can I Hit 900? – July 27th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 27, 2013 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 10, 2017

During the night we got some much need rain so I delayed the ride some to let the roads dry off. While I waited I watch the Clásica San Sebastián race on EuroSport. The timing was just right so when I rolled out the driveway at 10:50 the streets were dry. We only received .17″ of rain but I still expected the humidity to be more than usual but it was only 67% and the temperature was 87. By the time I returned home at 1:36 the humidity dropped to 50% and the temperature went up to 93. While the sun was partially covered I decided to wear a long sleeve jersey mainly because I haven’t wore one for several rides. My first thought is the long sleeve jersey will make me hot but I don’t think that is true and the perspiration production sure seems less. When I stopped at the Stripes station at FM1314 it was nice to not have sweat running down my arms with the long sleeves absorbing it. The cooling effect made for a pleasant stop. We got a slight cool front with the rain so the heat is not quite as high as it was earlier in the week. Tomorrow’s high should only be 90. I plan on biking after church.

Since I rode to the south yesterday I decided today’s route should go to the north. Not wanting to ride too far I thought going to Roman Forest Blvd. and then turning south on the US59 service road would result in 30 miles or so. With the trip through Valley Ranch and some other neighborhoods the route totaled 33.25 miles raising the week’s mileage to 203.73 miles. July is at 799.17 miles. With 4 riding days left it is possible I could reach 900 miles; I’ve never biked that many miles in a month. Year to date I biked 4125 miles.

The roads on this route are bike friendly although I did alter the entrance back into Kingwood because Loop 494 is being resurfaced from Kingwood Drive south. So I went my typical route through Kings Manor.
