About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Superdrome Points Series, canceled
by shrinkboy        www.bikeforums.net
dang, the folks who run our Superdrome in Frisco TX had to cancel the rest of this summer’s Friday night racing because of lack of attendance. how disappointing, but I understand thoroughly because we’ve had total turnouts of sometimes 8 or even less in all categories. hard to keep officials around for something like that.
i think there is just too much competition from crits and RRs around here ….I guess
hoping that the Fall series goes better. …

Keep the Wheels Turning – July 26th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 26, 2013 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 6, 2017

Some of the clouds were dark as I scanned the sky at the beginning of the ride. I thought maybe rain could be in the area but as I rode the clouds thinned and the dark ones went away. I left home at 10:33 with 88 degrees and 63% humidity and a light 7 mph SSW breeze. It didn’t take long for me to warm up and perspiration start flowing. The general route I had in my mind went south and then east. As I rode I decided to take some different streets in Atascocita to add to the expected distance. The ride ended up at 33.27 miles at 15.5 mph average speed. Some of the route put me in the tree shade since the sun had not reached the high point. The shade was greatly appreciated with the coolness.

The wind provided plenty of resistance when I biked west over Lake Houston out in the open. I thought the west bound traffic would help some but it didn’t. The wind strength seemed to increase when I rode over the places in the causeway where the water passes under. I guess this allows the wind to flow through as well.

Nobody was biking that crossed my path.

July miles increased to 765.92. The week’s miles are 170.49. Year to date I biked 4092 miles.

Midnight Massacre 2013
By Kim            bicyclesoutbackracing.net
Summers in Texas are HOT, and sometimes we have to be creative in our training regimen. The Spinistry puts on some crazy fun events, and their Midnight Massacre gravel grinder seemed like a good fit to mix up our bike routine.

Michelle and I had attempted the 100K gravel ride last year, but were unsuccessful with a torn sidewall about 5 miles into the route. We tried to butt the tire, but that didn’t hold so after going through all our tubes we had to fill the…

Let’s Ride Travis Country Pumphouse – Mountain Biking Barton Creek Greenbelt

Riding the Travis Country Pumphouse to Barton Creek trail segment. One of my favorite segments at Barton Creek Greenbelt and probably the segment where you have the longest sustained descent and a solid SuperD like effort.

A lot of fun and a good segment to really open it up on!

I’m going to try something new. With the racing season at a slow point, I find myself looking for other things to do when it comes to videos and things to write about.

While I was out riding my new (to me) Jet9 yesterday, and doing a little trail videoing, I thought it might be cool to do some “Let’s Ride…” videos that highlight certain…

The Jersey Makes a Difference – July 25th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 25, 2013 by Rick AnkrumDecember 23, 2016

The air continued to dry out with humidity of 62% as I left at 10:35 ( a little earlier than my recent start times) and the temperature was a mild 86.7 which would increase to 95 at 1:09 when I got back home. The humidity dropped to 41% by then as well. The calm wind at IAH was not exactly calm out on the route but not enough to really slow me down like yesterday when I was on FM1960 headed west.

I am beginning to realize that different jersey fabrics either encourage perspiration or help it evaporate quickly. The jersey (a Nashbar one)I wore yesterday had a tight knit and the perspiration did not evaporate very quickly. It did wick away from my skin which is helpful. Today’s jersey (a Bellwether one) had a more open knit and I could feel the wind drying the sweat and the cooling effect felt good. The jerseys did not hold water the same by the weight of each one when I took them off at home. So I will be selective about which jersey to wear when the humidity is high; the Bellwether type for high humidity and the Nashbar type for lower humidity. I have not noticed the difference in shorts.

Today I road north to Community Drive with the goal of 30 miles or so. To get to that total I looped through Valley Ranch, Briar Tree, Oakhurst and on to Forest Cove. The mileage totaled 30.85 so mission accomplished. Average speed came in at 15.6 mph. No real excitement today during the ride. No other bicyclists sighted.

Tomorrow’s weather should repeat today. Maybe I can get out and ride earlier than today.
